a good friend of the family from Star Island, who was an avid sea kayaker, got lost at sea on his way back from Star to Rye this week. he apparently did everything right, notified the Coast Guard before leaving, checked in from Star before he left, but just never made it back.
it's evidently the week to be lost at sea, since two NFL players and a friend are missing after their fishing boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico. the Coast Guard called off the search on Tuesday.
did i mention that my brother is on a research cruise this month?
