No longer Sky-less!
A few weeks ago, the receiver finally arrived. Tonight, being home, I could finally test it and yay! Installing it was a breeze and it worked right away without any tweaking or whatsoever being necessary.
I got the Sky+ HD Receiver (incl. Sky Anytime, though that still needs to get any actual data, so I can't say much about it yet), so I can also watch stuff when I want to watch it and pause the tv without having to go through the external DVD recorder (which is connected via SCART, so it would mean a loss of HD quality).
And yes, according to the online customer centre where I could take a look at my upcoming bill, they really did not charge me for the whole of December as I couldn't use Sky due to combined incompetence of Sky and the German DHL / postal service.
ETA: I forgot the most important thing!! Many of the channels I can now get via Sky (both the Sky channels and the ones they air as well, like Fox and TNT) show their programmes both in German and English (or, rather, the language the film/show was originally made in)! Not everything, but a lot of it. Which is a huge plus!
