How to turn a boring striped t-shirt...

...into something more interesting.

This is a trick I found in the latest Burda which I started buying after I decided to learn how to sew. They not only have fun patterns, they also have lots of howtos and patterns for accessories and, well, how to turn boring shirts into something else!

What you need:

1) a striped t-shirt, preferably cotton
2) fabric paint!
3) masking tape, to keep the paint where it's supposed to go
4) a paint brush or two. I used two sizes, one for the thinner and one for the thicker stripes. This is optional, though. One brush will also do the job, thanks to the tape!
5) pins
6) cardboard, that is slightly wider than the shirt

I started out with this:

A standard striped long t-shirt from H&M. I wanted to go as cheap as possible, in case the experiment goes wrong.

I got artsy with the tools and my camera. Ignore the food stuff in the back. Until I get a proper table, I have to use my kitchen table!

In the process of pinning the shirt down. I got rid of most of the kinks there later on.

Still drying on the kitchen table...

The end result!

All that's now left to do is the ironing to fix the paint in the fabric. I hope it stays there even after a few wash cycles ;)
