When Life Gives You Lemons...

You should buy shoes! And go to movies!

Mao's Last Dancer

On Friday I went to see Mao's Last Dancer. It was good! Quiet, but good. And while I'm not so much into dance movies, it still was an interesting story. And you got a moment of Mikhail Baryshnikov! Well, archived material. But Mikhail!

It's the story/biography of a Li Cunxin who, as a boy, was chosen to be in the Beijing Dance Academy thingy during the time of the Cold War. He was one of the first Chinese Dancers to go to the US, according to the movie. I won't tell you more, though you can easily find it out if you go and look him up.

I liked the way they told the story. They didn't linger too much on his childhood, rather had events from his childhood intersecting the story of the more "current" (read: 1980s) events.

R.E.D.

Last night, me and some friends went to see R.E.D.. Helen Mirren with a machine gun is all I'm saying. It was as much fun as I expected it to be! Predictable, yes, but it was an action film. It didn't pretend to be anything but a mindless action film.

Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich were all ace! It was quite a cute story, too *G*.

The Shoes

Well, not quite, but I was in need of some more elegant winter boots. My last pair died last year after a good service over four years, and my winter walking boots aren't really boots you can wear under a skirt or business-type trousers.

So, I bought

Which, incidentally, are the same ones my sister has. As different as we can be, sometimes our tastes overlap. I saw hers, tried them on, and they were SO COMFY! I went looking for others, as I was hoping for black ones and/or cheaper ones, but I kept coming back to them.

Then yesterday, the only pair they had left, was my size! While the other pair of shoes I would've considered weren't there in my size. So, I decided it was Fate. *G*

movies, movies seen in 2010, shoes
