In all fairness, though, "pants" is a weird word. I mean, I'm sure in other languages, it's a perfectly good singular word--like Goatese. I bet in Goatese it's singular. Thus, "pants is good" would be grammatically correct in Goatese!
Um, yeah, I should probably go to bed and stop pondering these things.

Anyway, pants as an adjective meaning bad ("This TV show is pants!") would make slightly more sense - at least, no problem there about using a singular form of the copula.
