Phones hate water, apparently

Yeah, I'm posting here. I figure it makes more sense to have a 'me-centric' rant here instead of my blog. I don't know why, stop asking. Anyway, today at work I managed to drop my ~$400 phone into a toilet. That I had just finished using.

I stood up (yes, it was as bad as possible, I had been sitting), turned to flush the toilet, and saw my phone go careening towards the bowl. It made a mighty splash. I quickly considered the odds of it working at all after being immersed in a toilet; I was trying to determine if I should in fact stick my hand in the toilet and get it. I did.

I found that cheap toilet paper starts disintigrating the instant it's in water, and that it sticks once it does so. I was happier not knowing this as thoroughly as I now do. I popped the phone open to see if anything obvious was wrong (which in hindsight was probably more stupid than dropping the phone into the toilet in the first place) and saw the screen was pretty screwed up, then it went dark. I took out the battery (a $45 extended life battery) and chucked it. I went to the Verizon store and watched the maintenance dude carefully clean and dry it. He popped in a battery once he was done, plugged in the phone, said "Ah!" as he saw the keypad light up, then said "Wait...I think it did that just to tease me," as the keypad went dark.

So, I have a new phone. And I think I won't take it in the bathroom with me from now on.

And my hands still feel dirty. I must've washed them ten times tonight. But they STILL FEEL DIRTY.

tmi, rant, poo
