Dad's Condition

Mar 03, 2012 10:47

I went in to town yesterday to get some new struts put on my car (always a sketchy feeling, putting in an technically non-essential $500 repair into a 15 year old car) and was enjoying a day out of the house: coffee, library, then lunch w/ gal.

Called home to check if I needed to pick anything up besides dad's new prescription, and mom calls back shortly thereafter to tell me dad's having trouble breathing and is coming in to the emergency room.

He felt immediately better once he got the oxygen, which was brought immediately by a guy in his car before the first of two ambulances arrived (Bell sent theirs even though my mom requested only the Richmond Twsp ambulance). I met them at the emergency room, drove them home, and then a guy came out with an oxygen condensor, which hums loudly and occasionally gives a darthvader-esque exhale giving the house a much more medical feel.

I feel guilty at having left, knowing not only that I couldn't have done anything differently, but also that I'm a better person when I get some time away, but I still feel a bit guilty.

Mom is doing surprisingly well, all things considered, and Dad's feeling better now that he's on the oxygen full time. Still sleeping a lot.
