There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray, love. . . remember

Right now, seven years ago, I was sitting on my couch, glued to the television with the rest of the nation, watching as everything unfolded on the East Coast.

Seven years ago today we all woke up thinking the world was no different that it had been on Monday morning.

I walked into work that morning for the early shift and saw the amazed faces of several of my co-workers hovered around a small TV at the desk behind mine. "There's been an accident in New York. We're trying to get a hold of our office out there to make sure they're all okay."

One girl was trying to raise the NY receptionist on the phone when the small group of us watched as the second plane drove into the tower. I remember the phone falling from her hands and hitting the floor with an abnormally loud crash as we sat in silence.

People dribbled into the office. Hardly anyone made it past the desk where the tiny TV was as we all sat and watched in horror as the events played out. When rumors started flying that there was another plane headed our direction and there were thoughts throughout the Chicagoland area of the Sears Tower going up in flames, they evacuated my office building and the rest of downtown.

There was no panic. There was no screaming or crying that I saw. There was some confusion on the packed trains, and palpable tension. . . but it was more stunned disbelief than anything else.

It's amazing how much the world has changed since then. Smaller things, like higher airline fare prices and more security checks to get into almost any building. . . but larger things as well. . . such as war, far more prevalent racism. Less trust. Less freedom.

I don't really know where I am going with this, but I always get a little pensive and reflective on this day. I remember everything FAR too well.
