Howdy howdy howdy
(man, I really gotta start thinkin of some new ways to start these things....)
How's it all goin up in the north countries? hope all is well. all is still slicker than snot on a doorknob down here :-P. we had a pretty good week this week I suppose. we DO have a baptism this saturday, and that is always a good thing. I already dont remember how much I talked about the moreyra family not too long ago, but now only the 13 year old is going to get baptized, finally this saturday. the ONLY problem might be if her mom wont sign the permission thing on the baptism register. its kind of a sticky situation now. marina's (the 13 year old) stepfather just came back into the picture, and he is completely against marina being baptized. the good thing is that he is A. NOT the actual father, and B. isnt even married to marina's mother, so really, his opinion on whether or not she gets baptized aint worth beans...and the mother had told us a while back she had no problem with any of her kids getting baptized (wanted to get baptized herself for a while there), but as long as that (for lack of other appropriate words) "man" is back, we're afraid the mom wont sign the form in his presence. we're pretty sure it's all going to work out in the end, but taking a line from the movie "american outlaws", "praying wouldnt hurt".
We had zone conferance this past thursday, that was amazing as usual. waking up at 300 to shave, shower, get ready and be at the terminal by 400 wasnt anything fun, but I got over it. we talked a lot about the importance of getting members involved in the work. that's kind of been my thing here in federal lately. the members are gonna get tired of me talking about until they actually start helping a little more. there are some awesome people, they just dont do much as far as helping us find more people to teach...not that I ever was back home, for example, but I never really heard the missionaries talk about it that much, either. it's kind of different when you're in a branch with an average attendance of about 23 people.
we had our interviews right after conferance, that was pretty cool too.. president more or less asked me if I was ready to end the mission in this area, I told him I was and he asked "when do you end? october?", "no, november" I replied. He thought my last transfer was 1.5 months earlier than it was, realized that that would be 6 months overall here in federal. "wow, that's a long time, well elder, lets talk about this". he wants me to be as happy (and therefor, effective) as possible in my last months, and wants me to have lots of success. we talked about the new possibilities of whether or not I end here and basically decided that whatever president thought was best. we'd just wait til september 7th and see what the new transfers bring. I also mentioned how Id like to train and he thought that would be cool...which means I probably have a little nuevito ("greenie" in english) of my own here soon.
after conferance we had enough time before our bus left that we got to go to Wal-Mart...the only sad part was that the one and only reason my comp or I wanted to go...and they were completely out of peanut butter...bah!
we're still workin with a couple people here we havent completely given up hope on yet. there's a good family we just havent been able to find for a week or so, but found them again on saturday. way good family, just still havent been able to get them to church. also Gladys, dont know how much Ive talked about her. I know she's felt the spirit a lot, but she just needs to recognize it for what it is...and it's also been 3 weeks in a row weve tried to get her to church that she hasnt gone. other than them we're still in the hunt for new people.
haha, you guys think ill be able to help with putting christmas lights up? remember how much of a help I was back home doing that? exactly. if its a flat roof, easy, if not...well...Ill do what I can...oh, and still dont know if maybe ive gotten that other package yet. the zone leaders got all our mail on interviews on saturday, but considering we live 1.5 hours out of the city and we had our interviews on thursday...ill be calling soon to see if I got anything.
yeah, ill probably have to sign up for classes while im here, but that wont be a problem. when/if you talk to someone from SVU, ask them about my academic scholership...like if im still gonna have one semester to get my grades back up and the like. besides me working like crazy, of course, it wont be hard either way, because Ill be able to test out of 14 credits of spanish and have 14 credits worth of A's go on my GPA right there....that always helps... and really, at this point, I have no problem living on campus anyway, I kinda like it.
well, I think that's about it for this week. oh...first...
¡¡HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERICA!!
ok, now that's all. behave everyone. I love you all and Ill see you in a
few months!
Love,
