(Some) Blast From the Past: Heraldic Display items I have made: all in one place:

Aug 31, 2009 12:18

I wanted to do a post that showed all of the SCA Heraldic display items that I've made in the past.

I'll be updating this as I come across more images:

Here is a picture of the Gonfalon which I appliqued for Kate the Green.
It was one of my first heraldic projects.
Thanks Kate for getting me this pic!

Sir Kyp let me post this photo from his archives of the banner I made for him,
he has since changed his device and modifided the banner accordingly so I'm real happy to have a copy of the original work.

Mistress Maysun has promised to get me an updated pic of the banner I made for her.

Here are the gonfaloni I made for Sir Cedric and for Mistress Rosemounde when he fought for her in Crown list a few years back. The second image of Roz's is fuzzy but a bit brighter.

Here is the Heraldic Cloak I made for a prize in a heraldic competition:

And here is a Kingdom Herald's Tabard (another prize - it is still in progress) Front, Back and Sleeves

Here is a household project of a household banner for which I did the drawings (and *some* of the painting): The tree contains her "fruit" i.e. symbols/badges of all of her current and former apprentices and proteges. Roz had me base her figure on an image from the Luttrell Psalter.

A piece of regalia - the badge for the order of the velvet owl.
It is my other guilty unfinished project that I started in 2007.
I didn't like the way the face was turning out so I took some of it out and am trying to re-work it.
The problem is that this metal thread on dark is messing with my mind.
Instead of applying dark to a light surface, I'm applying light to a dark surface.
Being that it's figural, I have to avoid making it look like the negative of a photograph.
He looks like a little old man...

I want to get these two items taken care of so I can begin to research and work on a banner for myself. I've got the silk fabric and thread all purchased, but I really need to find some extant examples of silk applique banners before I commit to this route.

The only thing I have with my device was when I painted a chair a couple of years back on a whim that contain elements of my device. Can't say it was done in period but I darn sure won't be able to lose it!
