I have a job! I'm moving to Phoenix, Arizona! Everything will be different starting January 2008!
This is the good news that I've been sitting on for two weeks while terms were negotiated, contracts signed, writing samples submitted, backgrounds checked, etc. etc. As of this past Friday night, I am allowed to sing it to the world -- I am now PROFESSOR framefolly!
(Okay, Visiting Assistant Professor framefolly, but the students will call me Prof. framefolly for short ;) .
This job comes with:
* A real salary (and real benefits, including moving costs)
* A great group of colleagues
* New and exciting career challenges
* A very very strong incentive to finish my dissertation ASAP
* A chance to get to know a changing city that has better air quality than LA
I will take this opportunity to:
* FINISH my dissertation!
* Rock my new department and students!
* Adopt a cat! Maybe adopt two cats! (dear Ernestine, don't worry, I'll still love you -- actually you've always wanted me to bother you less, so now you'll get your wish!)
* Buy a none-secondhand television (because, really, I am a media scholar...)
* Buy some animation books and dvds! Oooo...the Looney Tunes Golden Collection...
* Buy a digital piano with 88 weighted keys (this will be secondhand because I am just a visiting assistant prof...)
If I sound terribly materialistic, please excuse me -- I have been surviving on an average annual income of under 14K for the last 6.5 years. The prospect of not having to scrimp and scrimp and scrimp anymore is getting to my head...
In related news, that deadline that almost killed me? I killed it. Dead.
I submitted a full chapter draft last Friday.
Late, but not too late: my purely positive post :) !
