Days Four Through Six: Rapid Succession! (5/4-5/6) a.k.a. My Six Step Paleo Plan!

May 06, 2010 12:36

Due to the fact that I’ve got a bit of a rhythm down for this now, I wasn’t too hurried to get a blog post up! My day goes like this:

1) Up around 10. Maybe meditate a bit. Cup of coffee.
2) Around noon, have breakfast. Usually, eggs and pork. Have second cup of coffee.
3) Snack until 7-8. Snacks are usually apples or bites of chocolate. Drink water ( Read more... )

This paleo diet is interesting. It would be cool and useful to see how your blood levels change...

Why so much coffee and no tea? ;)

I want that Kielbasa!

I find lots of carbs slow me down, while protein is key during the day if I'm gonna be motivated to workout after work. Interesting.

You know I love my coffee. Gotta keep myself good and bitter. Mmm...

Kielbasa recipe goes thus:
1) heat some fat in a wok (I used a chunk of rendered beef fat)
2) cook up two links of kielbasa in said fat.
3) add three cans of tomatoes stewed with peppers and onions.
4) add a head of cabbage to the top
5) add S&P, along with some celery salt and beef stock
6) lid up and let it steam the cabbage
7) once you've lost the bulk of the cabbage, stir it all up and let it cook some more.
8) Nom.

My mom serves it over noodles, but I ate it without and it's great.

I'll try that recipe, thanks! My plan once settled in the new place is to finally get better about planning my meals and grocery shopping in advance, since I just make the same few boring things when left with stuff on hand. And I eat too much frozen stuff. I'm stuck in a cooking rut! Need a weekly dinner plan.

I will read more about this paleo diet. The primal "keep it simple" ethos appeals, but he hasn't yet convinced me that our ancestors were healthier and better off than I am. It sounds like romanticism. Better than our average American, ok sure, I can maybe buy that. But their life expectancy was much lower. How much of that can be attributed to modern medicine, sanitation, etc. vs. their lifestyle and diet?

Not being an expert I'm a bit concerned will all the fat you are eating. I think you need more fish in your diet for the omega fatty acids. Might want to get your cholesterol checked along the way if you can't afford a full blood panel...

If you read his book, it makes a bit more sense. He's along the Michael Pollan view which is eat real food. Mark's big two are this: first, insulin resistance is a bigger problem than most people understand. Insulin spikes from sugars and carbs cause eventual resistance. As for the fat/cholesterol, it's one of those things that we've been told all along is evil (evil fat!) but when you get down to it, the type of fat and cholesterol you eat is the big key. I eat all animal saturated fats. There are a lot of studies being shown that vilify trans fats and such like that and more that are showing animal fats to be less dangerous than we thought ( ... )
