Cleaning out the cobwebs in my mind

A friend of mine came over yesterday and helped me move two desks and a crummy computer table and an old rug out to my parking strips, with big free signs on them. Then I posted on Craigslist, free stuff. Within an hour, everything but the metal Boeing surplus-type desk was gone. As of a couple hours ago, the surplus desk was still there, but I'm kind of hoping that someone will take it today. If not, I'll have to have the junk people haul it away. But it felt good to get that stuff out of here.

And last week I bought a new rug for the living room, which looks much nicer. And I got a new shower caddy I have to put in, and I bought paint (sales are so nice) for the bathroom and kitchen. I have a lot of projects I'm going to start. Sean and I have agreed on a nice pale yellow for the bathroom, and a pale celery green for the kitchen. Both rooms have this odd white with gold flecks formica on the bottom parts of the walls, that someone subsequently covered with wallpaper. Wallpaper that I hate. We've meant to paint in those rooms *forever*, but we haven't gotten around to it. But the project bug has bitten me. Plus also, my parents are coming up for a few days, and they're going to help. Dad's very handy. We were going to tear the formica off the walls, but it's a giant pain in the ass, involving drywall repair, so I'm just painting over it. Whatever sins the formica covers, I don't wanna know.

The bathroom will be two shades of pale yellow, darker on the bottom, with a new thin chair rail to cover the edges of the formica. (getting rid of the ugly green wall paper on the bottom part will feel *so* cathartic.) White trim. I *might* buy a new sink and cabinet, because they're icky. I'm going to re-caulk the tub, because it's icky. I really need a new tub, but that's not going to happen. So, er, it'll just have to be nice everywhere else. Oh, and we're hanging a new cabinet, instead of the over-the-toilet shelving unit, that I think feels oppressive in such a small bathroom. The floor will have to stay the dark green linoleum it is now, but it goes ok with yellow, and there's green and blue and yellow in our shower curtain, to tie it all in.

The kitchen has this one blank wall with a window in it, facing the back yard, that has white wallpaper on it. Why? I don't know. But we're pulling that down, and painting that whole wall the pale celery color. Then there are two places where there's the linoleum up to the chair rail. Right now it has this fake red tin cutout wall paper on it. I don't really care for it, and it gets so dirty, besides. Dad is going to help us pull the stove and the washer and dryer away from teh walls safely, and then hook them all back up after painting. I hope. Because I don't know how much we can get done in one day, frankly. But we'll see.

The next order of business, after all that is said and done, is new curtains. And I'm calling electricians to get quotes on getting the wiring re-done. Yes. I swear. And we have a fence guy who's going to fix the fence, finally. And a friend of mine is going to help me get things organized and get rid of clutter. I'm on a tear, here, people. We'll see how long it lasts. I'm hoping through spring, so that I get most, if not all, of these looming projects going. Even if they don't *all* get done, it will feel good to get through some of them.

This weekend - tearing wallpaper down in the bathroom. Possibly sanding and taping. We'll see.
