It was a busy weekend, and the trend looks to continue. We have now packed up all the books (excepting a big stack of TBR, because hey, keep those out. We still have a couple weeks before we move, and then who knows how long it will take to UN-pack...) and all but a dozen or so DVDs - and anyone who's ever been to our house knows that's a LOT of boxes. Some friends who just finished moving brought us boxes, and took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill, so that was nice. We ran errands, saw my brother who was in town playing at Jazz Alley, ran more errands, packed some stuff, ran errands, and then collapsed, variously and sundrily around. Oh, and I went to dance class on Saturday, as per my usual wont.
On Saturday afternoon we went to the new house to measure rooms. Technically, the former tenants aren't out of there yet. Meaning that while no one is living there, there's still some random furniture and stuff, and no one (and I do mean NO ONE) has cleaned anything yet. Some of it's a little - OK, a lot - dodgy, and it was hot and smelly in there, but it was nice to get in and measure the rooms and get a feel for where we want to plunk things down when we move in, in 17 or so days. That took longer than I'd anticipated, and we were both really wiped out afterward. But I feel like I know where I want things to go, and how it should look, which makes me feel better. The dodgy and icky dirty stuff, well, the Windermere people have promised us that all will be taken care of, and told us before we went in there not to freak out. So we very studiously did not freak out over the xmas tree with stand in the defunct pond in the back yard, or the cracked stovetop, or the broken backed up stinky toilet upstairs. No, those things will all be taken care of before we move in. I have it on good authority that we have no reason whatsoever to freak out. Although I could not go into the guest bathroom to measure it, because it was too stinky. But all the other rooms and areas were measured and considered and Scott made little sketches of the rooms so we can be geeky and stuff. I'm looking forward to that part.
That night was when we went out to see my brother Quinn after his show, and hang out for awhile. Honestly, I could have gone to bed at 10, but we were out to the wee hours. It was nice to see Quinn and chat. It reminds me that I really need to get to the LA area and visit my nephew. I haven't seen him since he was 2, and he's 5 now, and apparently very tall for his age, and I'm just missing out. We might make plans for later this year. I want to remind Lucas that he has an aunt Lindsey, who is more than a faceless stranger that sends presents from time to time.
We had technology fail of a rather sucky kind this weekend, to round things out. My phone, which is the same kind as Scott's phone, has occasionally been weird and drained the battery completely even when I'm not using it for much. Every now and again it will do this, and die completely dead. And once it refused to recharge at all when it did that. We switched out my battery for Scott's, managed to recharge both batteries, and it was all fine. Er. Sort of. It did this again this Saturday, and so we switched batteries again, but we still couldn't recharge the dead battery. So Sunday we took both phones to the Verizon store, whereupon we discovered that my phone is a juvenile delinquent with a defective streak, and has corrupted both batteries now, and so therefore also now Scott's phone as well. I tell ya, one bad seed ... Then I couldn't reactivate my old phone without having another phone to call the help people on, which we don't because we've done away with home phones entirely. At that point I said screw it, it's hot and I'm tired and I give up. Which means that we're both without any type of phone until Tuesday or Wednesday, when the new ones show up. Not the end of the world, but really irritating. Oh, well. I'm just glad they're both still under warranty. I'm hoping this is not a recurring problem with these phones.
The days march inexorably on. I'm tired but optimistic about the move. I am heartily sick of the boxes everywhere already, but I'm trying to sooth myself with the knowledge that two and a half weeks isn't really that long, and while we're currently doing well (about 1/3 packed, I think) we need to keep going and keep filling the place with boxes, because that's the only way we'll stay on top of it all. I might throw some more stuff out, though. Next up: the kitchen. Going to get rid of some dishes we don't use first. The less we have left, the fewer boxes we'll have to move!
Oh, and last night's dreams had crabby dragons and infinitely deep temples (with lots of Persian rugs) that contained bridges crossing the depths, and hot springs and dangerous rivers and, er, something else. I don't remember the plot, only the details. But I'm back to my regularly scheduled narrative dreams, stress and otherwise. That's all for the good.
