He watches as two young boys walk hand in hand.
He remembers being young and foolishly in love.
He’d been so in love - so, so blindly in love that he dared to believe it was enough.
He desperately wishes it had.

Jin slowly crawls towards Kame’s lap, his hands reaching for the slighter man.
Shoulders trembling, Jin fails to hold back his tears.
Kame simply wraps his arms around Jin’s shaking form because it’s all he knows to do. All he can do.

Jin thought he’d seen a real mermaid when he first met Kazuya in the deep blue sea.
Kazuya who smelled like the ocean, with his quirky sense of humor and sun kissed skin.
It was a summer Jin would never forget.

Yamashita smiles sadly, he’s always known this day would come.
“Tomohisa,” Tears stream down Kazuya’s face, “I’m sorry.”
“Go, he’s waiting for you.”
“I wish I could’ve loved you more.”
Only after Kazuya’s out of sight does Yamashita breakdown. “I wish you could’ve too.”

It’s an endless cycle.
They get together, fight, and finally break up only to get back together again.
People ask why they continue, but the answer’s pretty simple.
As unhappy as they are together, they’re a thousand times more miserable apart.
So the cycle continues.

“Before we expose anything I wanna ask. What reasoning did you use to pick this hand?”
“Ah, I just thought, if it’s this hand then forever might not be bad.” Jin spouts out casually.
The curtain falls to reveal Kazuya’s blushing face on the other side.

Jin watches in awe as the provocative dancer - Kame-chan - draws him in. Flashes of skin as clothing is stripped off and deep sultry eyes that he can’t look away from.
Much to his surprise, Jin finds Kame-chan sitting in the front middle seat of his new class.

He’s never thought he’d fall so hard. It’s scary falling so deep in love, and it feels like he’s always drowning.
And he can’t help but wonder if the other is hurting as much as he is.
He wants Kazuya to ache the same way he is too.

A sudden downpour starts up and Kazuya huddles beneath a building overhang, a lone figure makes its way towards him.
“…Jin.”
The older man smiles wryly. “Dance with me?”
A simple question with a deeper meaning and Kazuya’s not sure if he ready to take Jin’s outstretched hand yet.

Jin likes to call him his mermaid prince, what with Kazuya’s love for the sea. But when one day the sea suddenly takes Kazuya away, Jin begins to hate the nickname.
Day after day all Jin can do is sit by the seaside waiting for his mermaid prince to return.
