Why
The thought - worry - had always lingered in their minds; that one day Ryu would be sent overseas.
Even after Yankumi and graduation came and pass, they still wondered how many more days they would have.
But a year went by and Ryu had stayed. He went to college and was surprisingly making his way to becoming a teacher.
So why, Take wondered, why was it that he, Tsuchi, and Hyuuga were at the airport waving their arms frantically towards their departing friend?
Just how did it come to be that after everything Ryu had done to stay, Hayato was now the one going abroad?
Messages
There had been no warning. There was simply a text message from Hayato one evening.
I’m leaving.
Ryu hadn’t thought much about it, and asked when, to where and for how long.
Tomorrow. America. A year or two? Maybe longer, not sure.
Why hadn’t Hayato said something sooner? How long had he known?
About a month.
Shocked, hurt, and angry, Ryu didn’t respond back.

He laid on his back against the grassy hill and looked at the open sky. Soon, Hayato would be gone.
A plane cut through the blue sky and Ryu raised a hand to grasp at the aircraft. If only he really could catch a hold of it.
There was a beep from his jacket, and he pulled out his cell.
I’m sorry.
His eyes stung painfully and he held the phone tightly against his head.
“You’re still leaving me behind…” Ryu whispered for no one to hear.
