Decisions are made by people who know what to do, or at least think they know what to do; insects don't make decisions they react to their environment according to instinct. I believe everything I do is wrong, I have accepted this only because as a person I need to make these decisions to survive and it makes no difference if no matter what I try ( Read more... )

A lot of self-help (at least the kind I respond best to) has to do with "releasing the outcome"--making decisions and taking action but not being so married to the outcome that you are CRUSHED if it doesn't work out exactly as you hoped. Some people who come into the world better prepared may seem more "natural" at making good decisions or setting themselves up for better results ("creating no-fail environments" as Dr. Phil would describe it). It's usually not innate talent so much as loving support, good habits and some preparation (usually through family, or a strong support system of some sort). You hear about kids who were "gifted" but fall apart once they get out of school into the real world... or people who get all sorts of outward success and then implode. I am one of those gifted fuck-ups to an extent, because I had good achievement at school that allowed me to a) cruise along dissociating my true passions/interests from my "required" schoolwork, thinking I could kind of lead a "double life" and not have proper discipline/ ( ... )
