It's the last day that they're stuck in Salt Lake City. (Or at least, it should be the last day. If the mechanic actually goes over his estimated time, both Laini and Mother will have quite a few words to say to him

The whistling cuts off as Mother looks up from the book over to Laini.
"Picking out routes towards the next big goal...UFO watcher convention in Wisconsin, late July, early August." He's still smiling. "Trying to pick out some places to hit along the way... We could pass through Kansas...or South Dakota, or zig-zag a bit."
"Yeah, but I don't need access to government sites- at least, not at this moment." She sticks her tongue out at the computer screen, then shrugs, and starts typing.
"I can see if they do. Anything in particular you want to look for?"
"You could see what they got listed for sight-seeing." Mother replies, going over the Atlas a little more. "You know, tourist-trappy stuff. Have to find some kind of souveiner to bring back and annoy everyone with."
"At least anything illegal that can be traced to us!" Laini points out, grinning. "As getting away with it is half the fun. And you did save those files I grabbed from the cops."
"And having some sort of interesting story to go with- oh, hello. What's this?" She raises an eyebrow, looking at the screen.
"Turns out Kansas is more advanced than I thought- or at least someone's been listing places to see, things to do, out in the middle of nowhere."
"They're flat and the only thing they've got going for them is farmboys who're secretly alien princes and the aviation industry." Mother replies blithely. "And don't tell me those two aren't somehow linked. They probably built a whole tourism board just to distract people from that little alliance."
"On the way to the World's Largest Ball of Twine?" Laini smiles charmingly, turning her laptop around so that Mother can see the screen. No images, alas, but there is plenty of large font text describing the object in question-

"Okay." He turns to his atlas highlighting a route to Cawker City, Kansas. "If you don't mind looking up places to stop in South Dakota and Missouri the same way you did for Kansas."

Looking back at her laptop, she flattens her ears. "And it's not really cooperating for letting me find out anything, either!"

Nevermind.
"Alright... Kansas, then South Dakota, Missouri, and then Wisconsin."
"Hey Laini?" He's glancing over. "You think Kansas's tourism board has an online database?"
