It's the last day that they're stuck in Salt Lake City. (Or at least, it should be the last day. If the mechanic actually goes over his estimated time, both Laini and Mother will have quite a few words to say to him.)
The two have already exhausted all the wierd, 'paranormal', or otherwise interesting sights in town- or at least, they have certainly worn out their welcome at the 'Gravity Well', and nothing else seems that appealing. So, Laini and Mother are simply hanging out in the hotel room, trying to entertain themselves. Mother is looking over a road atlas, and cheerfully whistling, while Laini-
Laini is cursing the current Stone Age of the internet. Even with a more-magic-than-tech connection, there simply isn't much there at all. Cue the fifth roll of her eyes as 'SUBJECT NOT FOUND' flashes on her screen, before Laini finally takes notice of Mother's whistling.

Her ears perk, and Laini glances over.
