HI facebook! Imean, uh, livejournal. It's been about ten thousand years.
I am devastatingly busy attempting to bring two warring communities together through art and crusading social justice through the youth of Plymouth - it's such fun! I finish my MA in a few months, then I'm going to Italy with Lai. Also I now have a boyfriend called Anthony - he's cute, studies politics, loves Doctor Who and he goes to the London protests and causes all sorts of riotous mayhem. I believe he met Charles and Camilla recently - that's all I'm saying.
Anyway, somehow I was asked if I would host a burlesque show. Kitty Kane's "Twirls of the Unexpected", hosted by your compere ("because, compared to the rest of the acts, I'm shit") ... meee. Forgetting that I had never performed anything in a very long time, I said yes. It went beautifully and we're doing lots more. I get paid and everything, so it feels really kosher. I did stand up - really crude jokes and quick wit in response to hecklers ("Fuck you, compere" "No, fuck you; it's cheaper and probably quicker."); some magic, where I matched up the wrong card from the audience member who selected from the deck, only to throw the deck everywhere in disgust when it went 'wrong', then mooned to reveal the card painted on my ass. I did a routine involving an electronic tag which needed to be removed by ten o'clock else the police would come and arrest me after curfew ("I didn't know he was an undercover cop - anyway, I'm not allowed near bus shelters any more. Or cows.")
I got to host from start to finish, fill in the gaps with some links, embarrass audience members (and there was a big audience, never been so shit scared before) and it all turned out beautiful. So well, in fact that Kitty wants to do more and has asked me to host them all. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm very grateful she asked me. Now all that fiery wit can be channeled in the right direction: at paying punters! :-D
Here be photos. Beware - BOOBS:
Being buggered by the fabulous Gezza Belle!
Handbag wars! I got Jules my manager who foolishly came along to fight with my mate Adam.
This gorgeous creature came out of a body bag as a dead Marilyn Monroe and put on the famous white dress, then took it off again. She was amazing. :)
Miss Von Trapp, with her dark poetry and electric cello - my god this woman is insane; I adore her.
Kitty Kane, without whom it would not have happened - it was all her idea. She's a very well-established performer, so she made the night go smoothly and did a sexy tribal dance for us. rawr!
Links to videos, photographers, artistes come later!
Oh go on, have one of Anthony then ;-)
Yum.
Life is very positive at the moment, though I haven't had a minute to myself since about September - but that's just the way I like it. Tesseract nears completion. Just one final scene to shoot - and I have 'outsourced' the music to someone I trust, and so far I am amazed by it; the project, though not entirely finished, has been very successful.
Now... to bed!
