School Bus Training

So far, progress on my school bus training is going very well! I've done some classroom work this morning going over some of the basic stuff like safety and the introduction to the bus. There was another gentleman (an older gentleman) with me during this. He was a transfer of sorts from another school bus company. Not sure if he grasped much of what was being taught during the safety courses as he just kept trying to apply everything to just a school bus (this leads me to question how long he's ever driven a commercial vehicle), which when it comes to commercial safety procedures, school buses aren't the only things affected by them. My thoughts going through the class was to just use all the knowledge I gained from driving different commercial vehicles. Honestly, me having never driven a school bus before gave me an advantage because I for one knew a bit more about how safety in commercial vehicles of all types is performed because of the different commercial vehicles I've driven in the last ten years. So going through the class was a breeze for me. The next step for me is to go through pre-trip inspection once more. The thing with the state of Illinois is it's the hardest state to get a CDL in, and the DSF (Driver Services Facility) I have to take my test at in East St. Louis is pretty damn strict and nitpicky about how to do a proper pre-trip test and road test. So I really have to be on my game and learn how to do a pre-trip to Illinois standards (because remember, the last time I did a CDL test was ten years ago in Kansas). I'm sure I can do it. I've been doing pre-trips for years so I know what to look for and what to report, so I believe I'll be fine. My pre-trip and road tests aren't until June 4th, so as long as I keep to my study materials, I'll be good.

Just a few more steps, folks! Wish me luck!
