Last Wednesday, I left my job at the City of Richmond Heights. I thought finding new employment would take at least a month to find and that I would have to find someway to survive the next month. However (and there's always a however in life), Sunday I read an add on Indeed.com for school bus drivers that offer paid training to those that either have never had a CDL or have never driven a bus before. So my mind is thinking, hmm...maybe I should inquire about this. So on Monday, I go to the place (Illinois Central School Bus) and inquire about it. One of the gentlemen brings me into his office, tells me what I'm about to get myself into, then tells me to go out and get the necessary paperwork (School Bus Eligibility Letter and Motor Vehicle Report) for me to get started and a job application for me to fill out, and sets me up for an interview for the next day. Then yesterday, I got myself completely dressed up, go out to DSF (Driver Services Facility which is what the "DMV" is known as in Illinois) get all that done, head over to the Missouri License Office for the MVR from that state (had a feeling I might need it), head back over to ICSB with paperwork in hand and went though the interview. Keep in mind I haven't been on an interview in five years so as you can tell, I'm way nervous about making a good impression. Turns out, I did make a good impression and the gentleman I talked to yesterday, who conducted the interview, was very impressed with me, so much so I got introduced to the company general manager on the same day! My day couldn't have gone greater! In a manner of one week, I managed to find new employment! That was fast!
Today, I have to run up to Glen Carbon to get fingerprinted then do some studying as I have to retake my CDL test (I never transferred my Missouri CDL to Illinois yet) and study up for some new endorsements (Passenger and School Bus). I retake my written CDL test on Saturday, which I'm confident I'll pass. Still doesn't hurt to refresh myself on this since I haven't taken the test in ten years (yeah, it's been ten years this month since I left for truck driving training).
Time to get studying. See you guys later!
