Climb Ev'ry Mountain

Some days you just finally break through, and it ends up leading to more successes. Last night, I was up way too late playing an XBox Live Arcade game called N+. Very cool if you haven't checked it out before, but very frustrating. Anyway, I finally made it to a stage called "Stuck in Traffic" and came to a complete stop. Very little solid ground to actually stand on without sliding into the Pit of Death, I ended up trying for over an hour, and died probably close to 1,000 times on that stage alone. Eventually gave up and went to sleep. This afternoon, after watching a very entertaining (if expletive-filled) YouTube video about the stage, I gave it another try, and managed to clear it after about twenty more minutes. Hooray!

Flush with success, I decided to fire Rock Band up and give another try or five to my nemesis, Green Grass and High Tides Expert Guitar. Last song of the main branch to pass. I've been failing this song for the last couple of weeks, after finally reaching it a month or two back. So, having decided that I already accomplished one impossible thing today, why not make it two? After a first attempt failed earlier than usual, I fired it up again. Strangely, I used my overdrive power at what I thought was the wrong moment, but because of that, I had to clear a harder section on my own, and managed to rebuild the overdrive just in time for the final section that gave me trouble. (Oddly, I couldn't even make it to that section until about a couple of days ago, so when I finally cleared what I thought was my last problem area, I gained another. Yay!) Anyway, with my unexpected overdrive, I fired it up, flailed madly through the section, and managed to get out of the last solo alive. Play the last few notes, blow the big rock ending, and... Pass! Hooray again!

It's perplexing that it took this long to pass the song, but now that I passed it, I managed a five star score. Other songs I play okay enough to pass, but only get three stars. This one I fail at miserably time and again, finally scrape by, and get a top ranking? I guess I played the rest of it enough to get pretty decent before failing.

After that, it was back to online play to try to rack up a few achievements, and I got my 20 score duel wins and picked up a five-streak on tug-o-war. Pleasant surprises all around. Seems like the Tug-O-War players might be a little lower on the ability side than the Score Duel folks, which doesn't surprise me. I kind of like the tug better, though. Call and response needs to be more a part of these games, particularly on DDR. What was it, Unison mode back in fourth mix or something that had that sort of thing? That was cool. Confusing at times, but cool.

Anyway, guess it's time to move back to drums now. I finally got a converter box wired up so I can use my drum kit rather than the stock Rock Band drums, so hopefully I can advance a little further in the Hard tour. Capped out a while back, but maybe now I'll be able to pick up the pace. Time to go find out!
