WELCOME TO SEASON 3 ICONS

This is certainly very exciting. After working on season 2 for more than a year, I was ecstatic to start working on season 3. Unfortunately, the beginning of season 3 came at a very dark time, and my muse had hightailed out of me while I was left scrambling with an odd assortment of textures that I was determined to ( Read more... )

Beautiful beautiful coloring on those Blessing Way icons. Stole a few! Time to switch out my Scullys again. :)

Yay! I'm so glad you like! :D Yes, indeed time to switch out the Scullies. I had a spectacular time working with Scully icons for season 3 so far. I think it's a combination of better hair and better clothing that really suits her this season and makes her much more iconable.

Thank God for improved Scully hair and clothes. Poor Second Season Scully just didn't age as well as the others.

I really, really love season 3 Scully hair, because it looks so retro and classic. Unfortunately it's also unrealistic. Would she really spend hours in the morning to roll and blow her hair to look perfect while on assignment in the field? There is a certain section of the XF fandom population who loves season 1 and season 2 just because it's more realistic at the expense of being less aesthetically pleasing.

One thing that always intrigued me about Scully was how careful she is with her appearance. I wouldn't put it past her to maintain that hair. And she doesn't always dress in the most practical fashion anyway--like running in heels, or how she's in a suit even when Mulder's in his typical grey t-shirt and jeans.

Well that is true. That is sort of part of her personality: to look put together even though it is always casual Friday's at Mulder's apartment. It's how she controls herself, controls her emotions. Her hands are always perfected manicured also, but not in a flashy way, but always in a restrained and business-like beige. She's not flashy, and it's totally part of her professionalism. It's one of the things she must do to assert a look of confidence and professionalism in the predominantly male atmosphere of law enforcement. So yeah, her hair, power suit, and high heels make sense. It makes her seem much more intimidating.

I love to look at how her clothes change throughout the series too. Remember in "Jersey Devil," I think, when she wore that bright red plaid suit jacket? And the blue plaid in the pilot? I like to think she had a slightly more colorful style of dressing that she drifted away from in order to not draw as much attention to herself--she probably got enough from being Mulder's partner. And we occasionally see things like her lilac suit in "Kitsunegari," which is crazy for Fifth Season Scully, but it's almost all navy, beige, and black otherwise.

I definitely do think your theory about Scully's colors is a valid one, about distancing herself from attention because she is working with Mulder. Also, bright color is a very feminine thing, and it also draws attention towards her. God, I remember oddly-colored stockings too, which just looks so wrong on her. And I remember lots of neckscarves....it was just a little too...feminine ( ... )

Oh man, I'd forgotten about the "Pusher" suit. That was gorgeous.

The seasons I know best are 5-7, so I can pretty much picture every suit of hers from that era...and even the shirts she wore underneath were all white, black, light blue, or that weird olive green. Not feminine at all. And the one time I even remember her wearing beige during those seasons, aside from the lilac in "Kitsunegari," which I'm sure has some meaning, is in that conference where she's arguing with Fowley about the God Module. I forget what episode that is, but now that I think about it it's fascinating that she's wearing a light color when going professionally head to head with Fowley in front of Skinner and all those other guys.

Man, it's been too long since I watched some good XF. I should break out my DVDs.

I think Kitsunegari was the only episode where she wore anything of color. There has been some more instances here and there, but the olive green I attribute to representing her giddiness and budding relationship with Mulder. At TWOP, it is known as the Sweater of Love. She was wearing it during her giddy episode with the invisible man, and she was also wearing it when she fell asleep on Mulder's couch in all things.

The Pusher suit is simply stunning. That was truly a stunning episode. Her hair, her alabastor skin, that dark red suit. It was so stunning. I think that is the height of Scully's beauty and refinery in Season 3.

I haven't watched XF in such a long time, because I want to savor the last episodes I have left. I also took a break from XF when I got into HP and House M.D. It's nice to have these three fandoms to balance things out a bit. I had been so scared to adopt more fandoms, but now it just feels comfortable. I'm not out of control.

Ah yes, you're right about the olive green. I think she's got a darker green button-up shirt somewhere, but I forget where. And the--heehee--Sweater of Love does show up in those two instances.

I love "Pusher" so much. I think it is one of the best episodes of the series. All the elements are balanced. Fascinating, frightening villain, good suspense, inept government intervention, danger for our heroes, and great M/S interaction in every scene.

"Pusher" is one of those episodes that I show nearly everyone who I drag to watch XF with me. It is just one of those great, amazingly put together, balanced, cinematic episodes that really is distinctive in quality, and the reason why this show is still so fondly remembered in television today ( ... )
