WHAT: APAIT Health Center’s 25th Anniversary Gala “Compassion in Action” Fundraiser

Los Angeles, CA. - Los Angeles’s newest primary care health clinic is celebrating 25 years of community service, which includes providing HIV/AIDS services to Asian Pacific Islanders and other diverse communities in Southern California. This year’s fundraiser also marks a major milestone as the organization celebrates its efforts to provide an array of primary care health services to multicultural and underserved residents of Los Angeles.

CBS News Reporter Juan Fernandez and Actress Tamlyn Tomita (Glee, the Joy Luck Club) host this year’s gala at the glamorous and historical Vibiana in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Serving as Honorary Host Co-Chairs for the event are Congresswoman Dr. Judy Chu (27th Congressional District) and popular Korean-American actor John Cho of Harold and Kumar and Star Trek movie fame. Filipino-American actor Alec Mapa, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and Johnson & Johnson will be honored.

And what would a celebration be without food and music? The evening will feature food from some of LA’s best chefs. Scrumptious meals and mouthwatering desserts will be catered by Maison Akira, Crepes Sans Frontieres, Starry Kitchen and Big Man Bakes. Drinks will be provided by Rosalynd Winery, Angel City Brewery and Midsummer Cellars. Musical entertainment is provided by Grammy award-winning local band Ozomatli, whose music is described as “a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga.”

A fashion show is part of the evening with collections from emerging and established designers Seng, Cody Sai, Madisonpark Collective, Sharlenne Chen, Songthai Gi and Andrew Christian. America’s Next Top Model contestant (cycle 16) Hannah Jones will be among the models walking for the shows.

TO BENEFIT:
All funds raised directly benefit APAIT Health Center and its historic and expanding vision to advocate, educate, and achieve optimal health and well-being for medically underserved communities. The vision of APAIT Health Center takes on more significance as it transitions into an entity it’s always wanted to be: a center for primary medical care, including pediatric and women’s health services. Upcoming changes to federal health laws it will place the health center on the front lines of delivering health care services to those in need.

APAIT Health Center has traditionally been Southern California’s largest provider of HIV/AIDS services to the Asian and Pacific Islander communities. It started off as a small volunteer run group in 1987 and is now a million dollar non-profit primary health clinic with offices in Downtown Los Angeles and Orange County. It maintains a staff of over twenty people providing services ranging from preventing HIV infection to directly working with medically underserved clients to better their lives. Last year, approximately 10,000 individuals were reached.
