Indeed yes! She is a very polite young woman, too. Her hidden cultural assumption was that Mr Weirdo Cosmopolitan couldn't really be from here; yet by putting it so politely it makes it so much easier for her to Make The Save.
Look, I do sometimes forget I'm not a woman (because let's face it, I do and have done a lot of stuff traditionally handed over to women) but I can't really imagine what it's like to be constantly branded as oh so you must be from [insert your obviously predestined Heimat]. All I can think however is that, in the immortal words of the great Lu Tze:
"You know, that really gets on my thungas!"
It must be incredibly annoying and I can only sympathize from a cultural distance. I mean I'd be tempted to say something like Glasgow but it wouldn't help, would it? And I can see why you would find it worse here. I put it down to the proliferation of Oz flags around late January. I feel like telling people NO NO NOOOOO! Get it right! Draping Oz flags around your shoulders is unbelievably un-Australian!
When I were a lad, anyone dressed thus would have elicited the response:
