Life on this side of the Atlantic

A quick update - so glad to see so many fab Thanksgiving stories! Mine has been extremely mundane. Good food, but with way too much TV. Some of the conversation has been ok, but most of it just underlines how different my life has become from what most of my family can imagine, and honestly, they're really not all that curious about it. They are generally happy that I'm happy, but totally confused as to why it makes me so or how I could possibly want to live so far away. Ah well.

My mom is a dancing fool. She has tried to talk my brother and I into going dancing pretty much every night I've been here. marimbanlr almost got dragged into it as well, but we dodged the bullet at the very last moment due to funky cell phone issues. Still, got to have a great chat with him, which is always welcome. Am hoping to catch up with outotoro and beetlebush today too.

We have also driven way too many miles over the past couple of days, including to Woodward and back in one 24 hour period - am actually quite pleased that today and tomorrow we are staying in one place. I might even get some of this elusive studying done!

Also, have figured out that naps at 3 or 4pm are exactly the wrong thing to do when shaking jet lag. Because 3 or 4pm OK time is 9 or 10pm London time, which is not an implausible bed-time (though extremely rare), which then means after an hour or so of rest it is totally happy to be awawke until 10 or 11pm OK time (4 or 5am London time) - the kicker is then sleeping in a room with East facing windows in a country where the sun a)can actually be seen coming up and b)does so before 7am in the wintertime, which means my body decides to be awake about the same time, thinking that I've slept in. . . Oof. The upside is that it does give me time to post while the rest of the house is asleep and not looking over my shoulder. :)
