guess i'm a teacher now

my class is SO GOOD!
seriously, their english is level six on the school's eight-level system. I need to give them more challenges. I ran out of stuff to teach half an hour early because I was rusty at lesson planning and because they whizzed through everything I gave them. Dominika asked about the differences between US, UK, and Irish English. I could go on about that for a good while. I gave them a linguistics lesson: taught them the t/d voiceless/voiced distinction and how that carries over from US/UK English sounds ("the thing") into Irish ("de ting"). It's great to show them a theory, see a little confusion, then say an example word "Irishly" and watch them laugh with recognition.

Last night the class was six; boss Mary says it'll grow to twelve in the next week or two. Kris and Dominika are from Poland, Mark from French-speaking Switzerland, Lisa from Germany, Claudia from Holland, and Federica from Italy.

And I have responsibility! I'm younger than probably all of them and I get to teach them! It's amazing. I wasn't even nervous in class, just natural. Self-effacing and said "Ignore that I said that" a couple of times, but I ... hope they like me. I already like them. And I'm going to get better.

to reiterate: SO GOOD.

and p.s. i get to vote over here! it's a global primary that i found thanks to democratsabroad.org (and found that thanks to Josh). Of course it's going to take place in a pub.

job, voting, teaching
