I've been bad, way bad, about the LJ thing. And since I'm currently in a distract-y sort of mood, I'm going to sum up the past two weeks in bullet points rather than prose. At least, that's the intent. But y'all know me -- I can intend as much as I want and end up in a totally different place...

--two Sundays ago: Peter's concert. I found my way to the Culturlann in Monkstown and walked into the door, where I see in front of me CORMAC waiting for me. Cormac is, along with Peter, up on the tippy-top of my Favorite Irish People list. So we watched the concert together, then had a pint and chatted for a long time in the Culturlann downstairs. Peter's show was great craic and he should be back from his countrywide tour in the next few days.

--school, classes, blah blah, getting to know my classmates (Shauna and I are indeed becoming great friends, along with Beibhinn (BAY-veen) and Louise -- the four of us have every class together and are quite simpatiche).... in terms of class work, the load is smaller but more intense. That is to say, at least in syntax, the problem sets are hard and tedious -- because Saeed's the type of guy who's been so smart for so long that he forgets what everyone else's definition of "basic" is.

--boy..... yeah, I have a boyfriend. And yeah, he's Jewish. And yeah, he's Irish. Born and raised in Wicklow. His name is Avi. And yeah, I've worried we're moving too fast to be bf/gf, but that's the way the Irish do things. After class the other day, Shauna asked me a question. "Now this is the impression I get from American [TV] programming..." I prepared for the worst. "Is it true that in America, you go on a date before you kiss?"
Thanks to a little insistence, though, I am making sure I actually like this dude enough to date him. So far, generally so good.

--crew: yep, sticking with the rowing for now. Coach Andrew put me on starboard last weekend, and I did it fairly well. On Saturday, we rowed into the city! This involves our getting into the boat, rowing 15ft downriver, landing at a rocky knoll (the weir), getting out and oars out and all, carrying the boat over the weir, 30ft to a part of the river that goes directly into the city, and getting back in with no real natural dock. It was a hassle and two girls slipped and got soaked, but worth it to get that much open water without having to turn around. We also were honked, whistled, yelled, cheered, and sung at by knackers on the sides of the river, which was obnoxious and distracting, but we managed. As of yesterday, Andrew has me rowing 2 in the "senior" eight for our first race on the 10th of November, though he's said that in the next two weeks any rower has the potential to be moved in or out.

--the apartment: things are all right. I never, ever see Toyoki -- he's in his room all night studying, probably spending 5/8 of his time looking up every third word. From what I can tell, he's a nice guy, but between our schedules not matching and his oh-so-limited grasp of English, I could be wrong. Jeremy has a job at Starbucks, and Alon and I are headed to Howth tomorrow.

I guess that's all the general bits. I know, the Rockies got swept out of the World Series. That sucks.
