wanted to remind y'all that I'm walking in
Relay for Life tomorrow evening, and I'm raising money towards the cause right until the last hour of the Relay, Saturday at 9am MST.
It all goes to the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life is an ACS fundraiser held in countless towns and areas all over the nation. Teams collect pledges and donations beforehand, and on the day set up tents around a walking track. Then, from 6pm until 9am, each team attempts to keep at least one member walking around the Relay track at all times. The first year that Lakewood had a Relay, my team was the Mad Hatters. Last year we were Madder; this year we are Maddest.
If you give $10 and shoot me an email, I'll prepare a luminaria for you. A luminaria is a white paper bag decorated with the name(s) of those who have defeated, are fighting, or were taken by cancer. Once it gets dark out, we put glowsticks inside each luminaria and line the track with these reminders of hope. They stay lit all night.
I'm walking to remember too many who've been unjustly taken from us, too many who've suffered, too many who have experienced pain themselves or seen it in loved ones. They know how deeply cancer affects all of us. I'm walking so that we can see more Survivor t-shirts at each year's Relay. I'm walking to phase out the "In Memory Of" luminaria. I'm walking because it's something I can do.
Please help me do something, too, by making a donation. Every penny is appreciated.
I KNOW we're all penniless college students (or grads). Cancer, though, is something that has touched all of us. It's changed my life, as well as the lives of others who, in a just world, wouldn't have ever experienced pain or trouble. Ten bucks is an hour's worth of pay at the most.
Donate to
my own fundraisingor the
team and thank you for anything you can give.
