and now the tassel hangs on the right

it's done. it's done.

janet again expressed her surprise that i was able to pull the i.s. together, but was impressed by how i did. golden and lotus each pronounced my name correctly at the mini-commencement (which ran waaay long, forcing us to run to the maxi-commencement). all the "faculty remarks" were in languages of fieldwork, which was pretty in-your-face dorky and esoteric. got old (and peeved me that I didn't know every language they used) but was at the same time kinda fun.
It poured all morning, especially as we were lining up to process into the gym. i did not cry until after the big ceremony when 2seat told me i'd not be seeing her for a real goodbye. even so, those were few tears and quickly quelled. oh, no, I have not yet allowed it to sink in.

The big ceremony was very nice. I liked all the speakers, although I really didn't connect myself to the speeches directed at graduating seniors. High school felt much more real.

and now I'm an alumna.

Afterwards, the fam went to Prospect. Cinnamon-malt froyo wins. During a break from the packing that next occurred, Mom opined that "You should always have vodka on hand."

Zach gave me a real snazzy blue and yellow checkbook cover. It's necessary but cute, appropriate but unconventional. It's a thing I wouldn't think of to give, but was such a fantastic thought! I've been raving about it all evening. He's growing up real good, this one.

The grands left before dinner, which happened at Solea. (Funny thing about septicidal coming and taking all the pots, plates, and silverware is that I can't cook any more. Not that I think my family would have allowed any cooking to go on in that trainwreck of a kitchen. The fridge has been starting to smell worse and worse over the past week. Maybe a mouse died behind it. Anyway, Jake gets to clean that. We dealt with everything else.)

Z and I are here now. I'm finishing my packing while Z plays WoW or something. We're libating and Mythbusting in half an hour. I'm supposed to be pretty much finished by then. I have little enough left that it's really just a matter of throwing the leftovers into the last suitcase. And I hate having to do that because it's so final.
