put first to attract attention.
PLANS FOR THIS WEEKEND ARE!
Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday. Call me if you wanna bum along.
Saturday at midnight: O Brother, Where Art Thou? at the Esquire. I still haven't seen the second half.
Yeah, that's it. I hear Lannie Garrett is at a jazz festival in Evergreen Saturday night, and mom and dad are going, and I might see if I can bum along with them to that. Then maybe Sunday I'll get to sleep in! (Heavens!)
yesterday I had a pretty odd experience:
As I was walking out of the elevator from work, ready to head home, I saw a sign with balloons attached to it. Myself being easily distracted by bright and floaty things, I went to investigate, and was promptly accosted by two kind ladies who urged me to head back upstairs and go to a businesswomen's "mixer" with free food and wine, and a raffle. Trying to be social, I figured, "What the hey? Maybe I'll make 'gonnegtions,'" and went back up to the second floor. I had Emma on the phone, and she said she'd call back in fifteen minutes, so there was my perfect excuse to leave early -- because I had not a clue what was going to happen once I walked in that door and took some food.
Turns out it's some network of ladies, each offering different employments and services, who get together to meet once every while. If anyone needs something like a massage, a Pampered Chef experience, 1-800-flowers, banking, hands around the house, or what-have-you, anyone in this network can tell you one of the other ladies she has mixers with who offers that service.
At least that's what I got from what I heard... for whatever it's worth. Anyway, I tried to mix for fifteen minutes, with everyone asking where I worked and what I did and me having to answer, "Well, I'm an administrative assistant upstairs," and when asked what the company does, answer "environmental cleanup and consulting." I quickly tacked on that I'd been convinced to come to this thing mere minutes ago by the ladies downstairs, and had no previous knowledge of the event or the organization. Everyone laughed. When Emma called and I whispered "Gotta go," the ladies insisted I take one of the door prizes, so I grabbed a small one that had a Pampered Chef tag on it. It's a bunch of recipes for a turkey dinner. I don't much like turkey, but I guess we can see what sort of substitutions I can make.
So, that was that. And then I went home, had dinner, and Emma and Clay and Olivier came over. First we all played a game of Nertz with Zach, and then E, O, and I drank, saw pictures from Saturday (hoo hah), and ate cheese. Em tried to start a dance party with me but I wasn't in much of a mood to dance, so we sat down and talked. And I fell asleep pretty soundly. Finally, I don't know how long after I fell asleep for the first time, someone decided it would be better just to go to my room and sleep. I felt awful for ditching my guests, but didn't object too much to being told to go to sleep because I had to give blood in the morning and didn't wanna pass out. Before I went to sleep, though, I gave Emma the things I'd gotten for her, which is good 'cause it means I won't forget to give them to her ever again.
I had some odd dreams, though. One about people who could change into different creatures, each one a different bright color, and another about a second season of Firefly (not sure if it was pre- or post-movie). Clay was a fan of it, and shared with me the big secret that Zoe had hooked up with someone and made me guess. (Turns out it was Simon.) Obviously I couldn't wrap my mind around that (who could? Zoe and Simon?), and so I think my dreams ended there.
Today: has been really, really quiet. Not much to get done, either. I've been browsing MSN and LJ. Found, on
weirdjews,
a bunch of moving photos of Israeli soldiers praying.
WHY THE HELL CAN I ABSOLUTELY NOT STOP EATING?!?! Is it all just to compensate for that pint of blood I got pumped out of my arm this morning? Ugh. I also got a new pair of back tires for Ol' Blue, and now Mom says she has brake problems.
So Alvin and I are using sprayable rubber cement to mount a big poster onto foamboard. Mack walks by and says, "I see what you guys are doing, sniffing glue, huh?" We laugh and Alvin looks at the corner he's placing down and says, "I think I'm a little high." Two seconds later he realizes his problem. That was the best moment I've had at work.
4:25pm: another awesome moment. Sue and I hear this high-pitched squeak come from the vicinity of the copy room. I go over there to investigate, thinking maybe it was a paper cutter squeaking or something. No, it was Shelby. Her job is really boring, so she listens to books on tape. She was listening to a scary one when Mike rattled something on her desk behind her. Her instincts leapt and Shelby shrieked! It was awesome. And then Chris and I figured out how to mount the big poster successfully, which was an accomplishment.
Also, this week I worked forty-one hours (the 11 on monday really did it for me) and so will get paid overtime. and, overall, make about a hundred more dollars than usual. Scoooore.
