'sbeen a few days, and mom even got on my back about it, so here I am, O voracious readers.
very occupied with tradsoc... as PaddyFest is coming up, and march 17th is like, TEH bastion of trad in ireland, we have a PaddyFest ceili on Tuesday, large-scale lunchtime session last thursday, and on monday: a thank-you dinner to everyone who participated in seachtain na gaeilge, then bodhran classes, AND a trad band here (not TradSoc's doing, but Rag Week -- it's the equivalent to homecoming, I'm told. Everyone is drunk all week). Also we're trying to plan a trip up to Peter's aunt's cottage on Achill (ack-ill) Island, and no matter when we schedule it, either Matt, Laure, or I can't come. Now we'll see who his favorite is!
so yesterday, for example, laure and I spent an hour and a half outside postering (Brandesians, you'd DIE if you ever saw how much paper they waste here... plastic and glass, too), and our fingers froze, and it was 90 more minutes devoted to TradSoc. (and as we were doing it, some lady walked by and went, "all these posters make it look like a slum. a few years ago i couldn't stand it. It just looks like a slum." we smiled and nodded. a couple of security guys also checked out the posters, which was cool.) on Friday after classes, Laure and I went into town for a few hours on TradSoc business -- and I also got a new whistle, which is so very exciting. this one shouldn't be crap like my old one is -- but even if it is (which it isn't), it's only 5euro wasted. I also couldn't resist buying two new tippers that are reeeally pretty. And today I need to go questing for cardboard, to make practice bodhrans for the class. I should probably spend some time getting to know my new whistle today, too, and on my drum. I want to learn more of Alasdair Fraser's stuff, cause there are some tunes on there I really like -- and that no one in TradSoc knows. if I'm good enough, maybe I can eventutally teach them to the lads!
efg, I dreamed last night that you came to visit. I think it's a siiiiiign.
also, so excited: I thought TradSoc was out of hoodies, so I'd forever be the one who didn't match, but Peter has ONE more, and it's MY size, and I'm going to get it tomorrow. It's garish, it's orange, and it's mine! I'll wear it around campus -- it'll be much better to wear than the huge varsity sweatshirt that I wear to sleep. Besides, I think the insulation on the varsity sweatshirt is running thin. Also, due to its size it's hard to layer on top of it (say, a coat). And it's uncool to wear sweatshirts here -- especially big ones that don't have anything to do with a brand name or society everyone knows.
it's REALLY COLD here. subfreezing. but dry! it makes one feel that one's fingers will fall off. March better as crap go out like some newborn and gentlest of lambs.
The days are getting visibly longer, though. When we got here it'd be dark by 5:30 or 6, and now it's not all dark till at least 7:15. I can't WAIT for the long days of spring.
right, well, time to walk to Tesco. Made Mom's Famous (C) chicken for Shabbat dinner (complete with CHALLAH FROM THE BRETZEL, which I found all by myself), so I had to make soup afterwards, but I had no veg for it. ash and lauren are waiting; i must be gone.
