on irish making sense, and 'sponsatilities

such a good morning.

talked to máire for an hour? about irish: the language, the culture, the thesis. got in some other chats about weather, travel, doing everything possible in 5 months, etc. she knows so many resources and has offered and helped me SO much... definitely wins the #1 coolest person award of the year. and, as i knew would happen, as soon as she threw in some phonology jargon, some irish words made plenty more sense. the rules, right, like that voiceless stops become voiced and voiced stops become nasals. and the vowels: broad/slender corresponds very nicely to front/backness, and then palatalization, whether the vowel is front or back and due to that the consonant is either palatalized or velarized. Linguistics In Action! mmmmmmmmmmm.

then i got to talk to clár, in the oifigeach na gaeilge, got a free ticket for a cd-release trad fest on saturday night, told her about the tradsoc goings-on, and she's going to email all the people in the Bord na Gaeilge classes about the session tomorrow and the ceili on tuesday. also got her permission to plug the lunchtime session and ceili during Irish-classes social time thi'seevenin'; told peter as such and he shall give me flyers. how proud of m'self am i?

left to do today: go home and eat. work on tunes on the whistle. lift. irish class! afterwards maybe sofia can help me book train tickets. for lunch is rice with korma. and currently in daedalus, i'm cleaning up my ipod. how productive.

gaeilge, ling, ipod, people, tradsoc
