Scabies Scare
On Friday, the campus sent out an email because we had a highly contagious scabies outbreak on campus. The people who went to the Bahamas over spring break brought it back with them - I guess you can get it from touching someone, sharing clothes, or walking in the warm sand immediately after someone who has it. It's a little mite that burrows under the skin and causes severely itchy, red, pimplelike irritations all over. At the time of the email, Rachel, my roommate, had already been itching like crazy for several days - but we're really hoping that she just has a rash because she started tanning this week. Treatment is this cream that you put on every centimeter of your body, from head to toe, and leave it on from 8-14 hours.
I literally got "picked up" by an old guy this morning! Jessica and I were walking to church and a car slowed down and honked at us. Then the guy rolled down the window and told us to hop in and he'd take us to church; there were already two girls in the back. He asked us all where we were from - the girls in the back were from Nebraska and Maryland, Jess is from Virginia - so we had five states represented. The old guy was so sweet - his name is Stu and he works in the mail room.
