Tomorrow is the big day. Everyone seems very excited...I guess I am too in a way...Though I hate to say it...I'm a bit more excited about the food...and about visiting the old castle where Keigo used to live. It brought back a lot of very good memories for me...even if those memories were a little....hazy.
I also went to a nice pub today...There are a lot of them. Some of them nice...some of them not. But someone recommended this one so I tried it. There were a lot of ales and beers...but since I don't really drink, I can't really talk about those.
Instead, I want to do another talk about food. There are a lot of pub foods that have "and" in them...
Steak And Kidney Pie
This meaty dish is filled with beef and with diced kidney, mostly from ox or lamb...I think. It'sgot onions and it's got a thick gravy. While not really something I liked a lot, I did like the really flaky crust.
Bubble and Squeak
This one actually sort of reminded me of an old okanomiyaki recipe I once had...Basically, they used left overs from Sunday's roast and they fry it up. All I needed was a special yaki sause. Maybe I'll do a Japanese fusion on this dish for one of my shows.
Bangers and Mash
This is sausages and mashed potatoes. The sausages I had were made at a butcher just down the way. They were really tasty. I will have to visit there. Maybe they can tell me the secret. Mine was served with another thick brown gravy and there were onions on top.
Fish and Chips
You can't go to England and not get these. It's the law, I think... But it's worth it. It's battered deep fried white fish...like cod. And the chips are slab-style cut potatoes, fried up. i think they taste best with a lot of sea salt on them. I got them from the pub, but the best place to get them is from of the many venders...When you do, they come wrapped in yesterday's paper. It's a good way to recycle and have good food at the same time.
I really want to check out the London Night Life....but with the festivities starting, I need to get my rest. Hopefully, tomorrow...I'll do a piece on the wedding itself...or even better...the cake.
