Character Info:
Full Name: Mary Weather Hargreaves
Fandom: The Cain Saga (Godchild)
Age:10
Species: Human
Point In Canon: The end of volume 7 of Godchild
Gender:Female
Background: Mary grew up in the slums of London. Her mother killed herself in order to protect Mary from a crazy suitor. From then until she was about nine years old she lived on the streets, making a living by giving tarot card readings. She does a reading for Cain, and as the things she predicts slowly come true, he begins to believe that she must be related to the family, and adopts her into the family. Now a part of high society she has begun training in the arts expected for a young lady to know. Cain does his best to keep her sheltered, but due to her stubborn nature she still works her way into the troubling things surrounding Cain and ends up seeing quite a few deaths. She might not actually be able to do much on her own, she silently supports Cain, keeping his spirits up and giving him someone to protect while offering him her love.
Personality: Mary tends to act somewhat older than her actual age in public, though this sort of behaviour was often expected from children of the Victorian society. Still, she is just a child, and is found acting like any other child her age would, enjoying games and stuffed animals. While she is stubborn, it is not as if she won't take 'no' for an answer, especially if it's from her dear older brother Cain. She's very conscious of his love for her and knows that he wouldn't tell her 'no' unless it was for her own good. Of course, being a child, sometimes she just doesn't care, and wants what she wants because she wants it. She's also not beyond falling just short of throwing a fit when she wants something, but she has more dignity than to go into hysterics over something. Instead she's like the child that is told no by one parent, so they ask the other parent. If she sees an opportunity to get beyond Cain's orders to do something that she really wants to do, she'll take it, like the time she convinced Oscar to take her to the opening of the park despite Cain's orders to not. She's also rather aware that she's a cute little girl, and will use that to try to get what she wants.
She's also very compassionate and understanding. She is objective and fair when she meets a new person, not taking anything like appearance or class into consideration when dealing with them. She's sensitive to the hardships that others have been through as well. Even though she now looks like a noble child, her years growing up in the slums and the people she met there are still remembered and kept as friends in her heart. She knows that she has been lucky, but that does not mean that things have been that easy still. Living with Cain, she has seen how people around him keep dying - people he cares about - no matter what he tries to do. She's shared this hardship with him, since they care about many of the same people, but as a result of seeing all the things that happen in the outside world she has decided that no matter how bad things in the outside world might be, she wants to make the home as peaceful as she can and be there with a smile and be there with comforting words.
Mary also has a bit of a temper. She hates the way her brother is with women, jumping from one to another. She also gets defensive when people try to suggest that she might be a spoiled noble who knows no hardships. She also dislikes being belittled for her past or being given false compliments. Despite this, over all she's very kind, generous, compassionate and mostly carefree. Even though she's seen many horrors, she still has been able to maintain a sense of innocence as well as kept a firm grasp on her childhood.
What kind of things will they be bringing with them? She will have her Tarot deck and the teddy with the little top hat she is seen with a few times, as well as a few changes of clothes.
Abilities:
Mary is very intelligent for a ten-year-old. She is a fast learner, having mastered manners, linguistics, and the piano in less than a year's time. She uses her sharp tongue to 'politely' insult those who anger her, though she will fall into coarser speech with someone she is more familiar with. The time she spent on the streets has also equipped her with a wide range of other useful skills, such as fortune telling. She specializes in Tarot card reading, and is eerily accurate in her readings, being able to get a decent, if general, idea of the situation for a person far away from her, or for someone's future. She's also pretty good at giving puppy eyes and playing the innocent girl.
