Rant about Faithshipping that I was itching to write for a while now

Apr 07, 2009 23:00

WARNING: This is not a personal attack. I don't mean to insult anybody. This post exists solely to state my view on Faithshipping and how I disagree with the way people currently write it. I don't really mean to bite anybody’s head off, even if it might seem this way.

Did you read the warning? Don't come and complain to me if you didn't. Good, I can start my rant:

Why the hell does pretty much EVERYBODY write Faithshipping sappy?

No really! I pretty much read every damn fic there is (at least on ff.net) for that pairing and, aside of a few very well written oneshots, all of them are sappy and rather OOC. Is it just that I have such a strange view of the pairing? Or is it just that I'm not watching the same show like them? Anyway, what I want to point out is:

1. YuAki is NOT perfectly romantic. This already totally goes against their character. They are awkward teens with rather screwed-up backgrounds, were forced to grow up far quicker than they should and have no idea how to deal with a relationship.

As far as canon goes there are no girls his age in Yuseis closer environment. In fact the only woman we saw him interact with is MARTHA, who is like his mother not to mention the pet-theory I have about her being his nanny before ZR but that is for another day XD.

The only relationship I see Aki having before meeting Yusei is with Divine. And even that would probably very angsty and onesided, because Divine is an ass just using Aki.

2. Yusei doesn't do things like "I love you"-declarations. He would be wondering about what the hell his feeling about Aki because he knows it's different from what he's feeling for Crow, Jack, Martha and co., but he wouldn't really pinpoint it as love.

Even if by chance they were together he wouldn't say it out loud. He's a man of action so to speak. So if it comes to it, unresolved sexual tension or whatever you want to call it, which neither of them would recognise as such resulting it even more awkwardness, he MIGHT kiss her. And be awkward about it afterwards.

3. Aki is more the type to say "I love you". But I think it would still take her a while to realise that. Due her background she is rather unsure about love and relationships (not just love but friendship too). I also peg her to be the type, who would do something about the awkwardness between them. She would probably be the one to kiss him rather than the other way 'round.

4. Yusei DOES NOT cling.Yes he values bonds and friendship, but he isn't obsessive about it that's Jack's and/or Kiryus department

I agree with anyone who says that Aki is a bit clingy. For her, Yusei is a pillar that kept her stable after Divines death. But in my eyes she DOES develop her own views (which might be, as I admit, rather close to Yusei's) and seeing how she argues with Jack in episode 47 I'd say she's on her way to become her own person.

5. NOBODY falls in love after crossing eyes for three seconds (and yes I'm referring to episode 16). I admit that I started shipping YuAki after that Episode but only because I saw the POTANTIAL for a relationship. But for that to realise, it needs TIME. The show doesn't give them that. Creating time is the job of us FF-WRITERS! Also even if you can't create that time, that's no excuse to write them OOC.

So much for my rant. I feel so much better now *sighs*

If you read this and agree with me, be kind and leave a comment.

If you don't agree, please leave a comment anyway. It's not like I'm going to bite your head of. It's just that I reached my pain limit concerning fluff and needed to rant about it. I'm usually a reasonable person und like discussing.

And now I’ll go either to write the next part of the insanity I call “Starshards” or finally write one of the two YuAki one-shots that have been floating in my mind.

yuaki, ygo, 5d's, rant
