Kharlan Timeline
~The beginning~
- The Kharlan War has been a 'dispute' for 1000 years now, but finally evolves into a full-blown war by the time Mithos is born.
- Kratos and Yuan meet on the battlefield quite often, meanwhile Mithos and Martel are kicked out of Heimdall.
- Mithos and Martel discover a plot of Sylvarant to destroy the capital by use of a Mana Cannon. This device was referred to as Thor's Hammer back then.
- Mithos and Martel travel to the capital of Tethe'alla and meet with Kratos. Kratos attempts to arrange a meeting with the King (via Princess Soleille?) but the King won't listen. Kratos becomes an outcast for associating with half-elves.
- They go to Sylvarant instead and Kratos introduces them to Yuan.
- ???
- Failture. Tethe'alla's capital is destroyed. Kratos officially decides to join their group and teach Mithos.
- Yuan rejoins the group with the full intention of exposing Mithos's "hypocrisy". Rather, that's the reason he justified himself with.
- They get High-Exspheres. Presumably Kratos and Yuan already had them, but Mithos and Martel must've gotten them a bit later somehow.
~Four Kharlan Heroes and their journey~ (these events may not have taken place in this exact order.)
- Martel contracts Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium. With the aid of a unicorn and several assorted items, she is cured.
- Then at some point Martel contracts Ozette flu as they search for Fandalia Flowers to cure an entire village of, ironically, Ozette Flu. She is cured.
- They meet with Ratatosk and at least one of the Centurions (Tenebrae). They gain Ratatosk's trust and he grants them the Derris Emblem.
- They meet with other Summon Spirits and make pacts.
- There was also an obscure Niflheim adventure. Unable to destroy it, Yuan, Kratos and Mithos leave part of their soul inside the book, hoping one with a strong will would one day appear and finish the job.
- Exire is created with Maxwell's aid.
- The Kharlan Tree withers away anyway, leaving only a seed behind. Ratatosk feels that the Kharlan Heroes betrayed his trust.
~The end of the heroes~
- Finally, they make a pact with Origin. Mithos gets his hands on the Eternal Sword and splits the world in half, thereby ending the conflict between Sylvarant and Tethe'alla.
- The hourglass system is created while they wait for Derris-Kharlan. Also, they stop their metabolism at this point, because otherwise Kratos would be dead by the time Derris-Kharlan comes around.
- Yuan probably proposes to Martel around this time.
- Martel is killed by a traitorous filthy human. Her High Exsphere is tied to the Great Seed to keep her soul alive.
~The formation of Cruxis~
- A seal is placed on Origin based on Kratos's life.
- Derris-Kharlan finally comes around and is tied to the planet's orbit. All its mana is fed into the Great Seed. The comet is hidden from sight with the aid of the Eternal Sword.
- World Prolongation Project begins! ("The world was originally split in two in order to keep the mana depletion to a minimum and to sustain the world and the seed of the Giant Tree. Additionally, the usage of the Summon Spirits to guard the Mana Link and restrict the flow, keeps the world from prospering. Great prosperity leads to the possible development of magitechnology, which causes meaningless wars.")
- High-Exspheres that were used for the war are gathered by Cruxis. They are later renamed to Cruxis Crystals.
- They mess around with the Centurion's altars to create Summon Spirit seals for the Chosen Ones there.
- Church of Martel is formed, with the aid of Mithos the Hero propoganda. This will have taken a long time to completely implement.
- Sylvarant's moon, Selene, is renamed to Tethe'alla. It's uncertain what Tethe'alla's moon was originally called, but that one is renamed to Sylvarant.
- As Cruxis starts inhabiting Derris-Kharlan, the young Kharlan Tree that had been planted by the Elves (guarded by Norn) is hidden away by Mithos.
- Desians are sent into the declining world to cause havoc.
- Chosens go out to stop them, in accordance with teachings from the Church of Martel.
- The Age of Lifeless Beings slowly begins as Mithos gathers more and more followers.
- Yuan slowly comes to his senses and 800 years pre-game, the Renegades are formed.
P.S. Oh yes and apparently Noishe was there the entire time. He was just offscreen where we couldn't see him.

Headcanon
The following is my personal headcanon for Yuan, and it's in no way official!
Born in the region where Asgard now lies, Yuan was part of the prestigious Ka-Fai family. His father was an aristocrat and his mother an elf, who 'left' soon after Yuan was born. He has no idea what really happened to her, as he was forbidden from mentioning her, but he does know his birth created quite the scandal. As his father often reminded him, he was lucky to be kept around at all and even the smallest mistake could have landed him in the gutter. After all, the Ka-fai name was not to be discredited. So Yuan worked hard to stay out of the way and do his father proud. He joined the Sylvarant army at a young age and honed his skills, eventually climbing the ranks thanks to a combination of his abilities and family name. Whenever he was sent into the battlefield, he would seek out Kratos Aurion, head of the Tethe'alla Royal Guard, in hopes of defeating him. Such a victory would surely be enough to have his father respect him.
Of course, Yuan never succeeded in taking Kratos down. In fact, after a few years of furious battling Kratos Aurion was relinquished of his duty and showed up in Sylvarant a while later, accompanied by a pair of half-elven siblings, Martel and Mithos Yggdrasill. They hoped that Yuan would be able to stop Sylvarant from firing Thor's Hammer at Tethe'alla's capital. At first Yuan refused, as the three were from Tethe'alla and therefore not to be trusted. Aside from that, Sylvarant's commanders had no reason to listen to a half-elf, even if he were of a high rank.
However, Yuan soon found himself unable to deny the request when Martel continued to insist on it. He approached his superiors in an attempt to have them believe there was no need to use Thor's Hammer, only to be punished for his impudence. Kratos and the Yggdrasill siblings returned to Tethe'alla's capital to find it in ruins.
This is where things get a little fuzzy and up for debate, but suffice it to say Yuan met with Mithos's group once more and decided to join them. He proclaimed that he wanted to expose Mithos's hypocrisy and see him fail firsthand. Truthfully, the main reason he wanted to travel with them was because he was captivated by Martel Yggdrasill. Aside from that, he couldn't understand how two half-elves could have such a bright outlook on life. When he left Sylvarant's army and brought 'shame' upon the Ka-fai family, he renounced his last name and everything he may still have been entitled to.
It took Yuan an incredibly long time to admit his feelings to Martel and an even longer time to finally gather up the nerve to propose to her. When he did, he had a ring custom-made by a Dwarven blacksmith.
Headcanon tidbits:
- Yuan designed the Rheairds himself, originally to be used by Cruxis. The Renegades later copied the technology with ease.
- In fact, he enjoys working with (magi)technology in general.
- He is right-handed. The Cruxis Crystal is on his left hand.
- When he was young he used to hide in obscure corners of the house, as his father often told him to "stay out of the way". It's a trait that he still has, as he continues to hide himself away from other people, especially when he's suffering from some form of inner turmoil.
- Yuan no longer has any preferences for food. After so many years, nothing tastes 'good' anymore. He eats because he has to, not because he enjoys doing it. However, when an opportunity presents itself for him discover new food, such as dishes limited to other worlds, he'll gladly try it.
- He has a very eccentric taste when it comes down to decorating.
- Due to seasickness, Yuan hates getting on boats. He can't even remember the last time he was on one.
- The reason he decided to go through with starting the Renegades was because Cruxis wiped out most of Sylvarant Dynasty, simply because they undermined the Church of Martel's beliefs.
- Yuan dreamed of becoming a father one day. Now he resents Kratos for having a son, only to leave him behind in the end.
- He also resents Lloyd Irving for accomplishing the thing he'd been striving for for centuries within half a year's time.
- A few years ago, he had a pair of wedding rings made by Lloyd for the second Martel, as he'd planned to renew his proposal and actually wed her. Sadly, Martel was sent home before he could pop the question. The inscription on the rings reads "Our eternal love will never waver", in Elven language.
