Reality checks

So I was driving to work this morning and my brain just wouldn't stop grousing about last night's Heroes, and how I'd loved the first four episodes of the season and been completely psyched for this one, but ended up hating it.  And I was snarkily thinking, "How did this show go from 60 to zero on me in under an hour?"

That's when I saw the metal ( Read more... )

Despite the fact that she almost hit me, I felt really bad for the girl--her first thought after coming to a stop was to make sure her car was out of the path of traffic, so no one else would wreck.

It was certainly a harsh reminder that there are far more important things for me to spend time worrying about.

Yeah, I've witnessed several nasty rear-endings happen ahead of me on freeways before, but never had a car come flying towards me like that.

Jesus woman, I'm glad you're okay after all of that. Poor show from the police though- God forbid you guys should be good samaritans or anything.

I know! I was so irritated! I mean, my aunt is a cop, and I used to work for a juvenile court so I spent time around sheriff's deputies, and I know you kind of have to shut down your emotions in order to do the job well. But dude. The girl was clearly upset, and for all we knew, she might have had internal injuries and collapsed after the adrenaline wore off. We weren't about to leave till someone else got there to look after her.

But yeah...it was a very bad few seconds as I thought, please let the car stop please let the car stop.

It was one of those things that could have ended totally differently if her car hadn't stopped right where it did...or if there hadn't been that wire fencing across the median. I've actually wondered before if it would really slow vehicles down that much if someone lost control and hit it...YES, IT DOES.

I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt, but that is one hell of a reality check. Also, what a dick (the cop, I mean.)

It was totally not a good way to start the day...but on the other hand, if a wreck had to happen, it was the best way for it to happen: no one got hurt and aside from the paint job and the airbags deploying, no cars were even damaged. Ugh. I'm getting miffed at the cop again, though.
