Forsaken Fandom Awards Round 1

Nov 01, 2006 06:45

The first round of the forsaken_fandom awards has concluded and the results and banners are now up. On the whole we feel it was fairly successful, we can see where some changes will be needed to make future awards run more smoothly.

We are working on creating a simpler and more efficient way for people to nominate. Next time, nominations will be posted online as they come in and are approved by the authors. My apologies to the Profiler fandom, because it was the largest, it was a more complicated poll than I was able to execute it ended up being a copy and paste ballot - next time it will be a much simpler poll format - you guys got more mod awards due to your challenging voting.

We're planning to revise the rules for greater clarity. A couple fics made it to voting that we didn't realize until later weren't within the dates of the rules - our fault but in future we will be checking and enforcing that rule.

The nominees in four of the fandoms were primarily from a particular ship in those fandoms. I received two emails about two of those four fandoms complaining that we were playing favorites - so I'm going to address those persons and anyone else who may feel similarly.

The nominations were open to everyone, every nomination that the author email was valid so they could give their approval was added. I made no nominations nor did I vote in the interest of fairness. Nominations and votes were accepted from members and non-members of the community, it's not our place to discriminate against non-canon, au, or slash fiction. I think this can be best addressed by a comment made by one of our judges, melsmarsh, "If they believe that they (the nominees) are not representative of the fandom, then maybe they should get more "representative" fans involved for next time."

I'd like to thank our judges for all their time and hard work. They made decisions on the write in categories and categories which only had one nominee. They were a tremendous help and we hope will be able to join us in future rounds of awards.

Special thanks to melsmarsh for your help at the eleventh hour! My lovely co-mod, roman_romantic and I would like to thank m_ravensblood who made and designed the banners for the winners in every fandom. On that note, I'd like to announce that m_ravensblood and melsmarsh have agreed to become community moderators and even have issued a few mod awards for some of the fandoms.

The first round of awards was a learning experience and we hope the next time will have even greater success.
