Finding your role

So, I apparently wasn't meant to be a vet (my first truly pursued life goal) or to ride horses for a living (my second goal).  I also wasn't meant to stay in any of the following for "the rest of my life":  a world renowned equine researcher (see the pattern?), a college professor, or an extension educator.  It seems I may be destined to be an administrator during the next phase of my life.  I guess I've actually done this before, but I wasn't getting paid for it.  Maybe that was practice for this...there certainly seem to be quite a few parallels...

I'm going to apply for the job and try to fix this broken facility.  In the six weeks I've been in charge, I'm getting used to getting up at 5:30 am and things are starting to look up/improve despite several issues with the horses that were beyond our control (and, in at least two cases, outside of our budget to fix...let's talk about frustration), two storms that blew down trees all over the farm (involving damage to three houses on the farm, but no injury to people or animals) at the end of fiscal year (try to find money to clean up the place...at least the repairs are getting done), and pretty piss-poor morale amongst the staff (can I fire them all and start over?  Just kidding...).  I think I can make a difference.  I think I am making a difference.  The grape vine says no one has an unkind word to say about me, which is more than it has to say about the previous three administrators who were here a total of about five years between them.  I know I can make a difference if I stay in extension as well, but I have to admit the money will be much better if I take over here.

Don't know where it'll go from here...life's a journey.  I'm trying to relax and enjoy the ride.

By the way, my husband rocks (smile).
