So, I had been trying to learn a Flecktones song that is somewhat tricky, but I know from memory and can play on guitar, on pennywhistle for the cochlear implant people tonight. ("The Leaning Tower".) However, I didn't finish my songwriting portfolio till around 3 AM last night. (And I still have a bit of copying and printing to do in the next hour and a half.) So I was figuring, what can I reliably play that I can be sure of playing well? And, the lady suggested we play pieces people would recognize, since they have trouble distinguishing musical sounds.
Here's the breakdown of potential pieces:
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones: Shuba Yatra
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones: Big Country (Just the main tune for both of these.)
Both of these are really nice instrumental pieces, but neither is well-known. So what else could I play?
Nina suggested "Eye of the Tiger," which was funny. But then I realized, I do know how to play that, and they should recognize it. I'm gonna do it!
Also, have you seen
Learning guitar well enough to get laid.? It's good. That was the inspiration for Andrew (drummer friend) to have me sing it while the three of us (including Evan) played guitar and recorded it to send to a friend he wanted to flirt with via facebook. (It was not, however, for the purpose of getting laid.)
Anyway, that was funny, and I know that song too, and so do lots of other people, so maybe I'll play that today. I think it's safe to say I won't get laid.
$100, here I come.
