Ariel Winter and Kiernan Shipka both attended the Emmys again this year to support their award-winning TV shows. Ariel's Modern Family took home Outstanding Comedy, while Kiernan's Mad Men won for Outstanding Drama.
Ariel, 13, got lots of attention for her pale pink, floral lace gown with a halter neck -- which was probably the goal all along. Twitters and blogs were crowded with people voicing their disapproval. Our favorite comment went to this blog for, "It took us a second to recognize Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy, without the glasses and, um, fabric covering her torso." Ariel has worn age-inappropriate outfits before -- here's a good example -- and we weren't surprised.
Kiernan, 11, wore a shimmery, multicolored dress with metallic silver heels. We loved it, mostly because it's a very different look for Kiernan. Until now, she's stuck to more childish, straight-cut dresses, like this one with polka-dots or this one with embroidered blue flowers. This dress is more grown-up -- even edgy -- but crucially, it's still age-appropriate. That's a fine line to walk, but Kiernan nailed it.
