Previous parts:
Prologue The glass doors open at the sense of movement nearby.
The beams of sunlight blind him briefly as he steps out onto home ground again. His hand shields the attacking rays as the familiarity of his surroundings are consumed. The people, the shapes that symbolises his language, the atmosphere. After six years away studying and working abroad, Jaejoong was finally home.
He stands in front of the newly built apartment block. Tenth floor, second window to his right. Jaejoong’s home until further notice.
Clutching onto the edges of the cardboard box containing the last of his belongings. He’s welcomed once again by the doorman who bows politely whilst he holds the door open.
He hears the arrival of the next elevator, pushing the strap of his bag further up his arm as it sits snugly on the blade of his shoulder; he grips onto the box tightly dragging his feet as quick as they could go to catch his lift.
Dodging between people exiting the compact space, Jaejoong’s bag is suddenly knocked off his shoulder. It falls, trapped at the crook of Jaejoong’s arm resulting in the loss of balance as his heavy bag drags him forward.
A pair of strong arms suddenly wraps around Jaejoong’s waist fighting off the force of gravity, the echoes of his belongings scattering along the glossy ivory tiling is heard in the almost empty lobby.
“You alright?”
The person voices kisses against Jaejoong’s skin holding him close, the rise and fall of the stranger’s chest is felt against Jaejoong’s back
The husky harmony of the man’s voice echoes through Jaejoong’s ears leaving a mark in his chest, the subtle scent of aftershave sends Jaejoong’s mind disappearing away from reality.
Yet reality is quick to drag him back, realising he was still caught within the man’s grip, he felt himself going hot, ears burning, heart exploding. He escapes, bowing a perfect 90 degrees.
“Er yeah. Sorry. Thank-you. Sorry...?”
The front of his hair is brushed behind his ears as his head rises ever so slowly.
The corners of the other man’s mouth curled into the most beautiful smile Jaejoong had seen in awhile. Yet why was it so familiar?
Jaejoong found himself unintentionally staring at the handsome guy before him. Dark spiked up hair, gorgeous sparkling orbs, that smile, leather jacket, black tee, navy jeans resting just below his hips. How could a guy in all one tone of colour look so damn hot.
The words he spoke in his head raced ahead before his mind had time to register each syllable, damn hot?
Shaking himself out of the gaze, which could be seen as creepy, Jaejoong thanked the young man once again and proceeded to clear up the mess abandoned on the floor.
Nonetheless the man was once again by his side, bending down on his knees before Jaejoong. Jaejoong watches as the man moves around the lobby picking up the scattered folders, piling them neatly on top of each other and returning them into the box.
Every object returned results in a thank you which the young man replies with you’re welcome, a cycle that continues until every object was cleared off the floor and into the box.
Then familiarity strikes again. That laugh.
A unique melody vibrates off the walls of the now empty (with the exception of them two and the staff) lobby, this contagious tune sends the staff laughing along and Jaejoong can’t help but chuckle along too.
“Well, I think that’s everything”.
“Thank-you.”
“You’re wel- Ah sh...oot! I’m going to be late, sorry. Erm, I guess I’ll see you around”.
He bows politely and rushes off before Jaejoong could apologise for being the cause of his lateness.
The valet gives the stranger his keys and he watches as the young man drives off into the distance.
I guess I’ll see you around? I hope so.
After living in California for the past six years, Jaejoong had grown accustomed to introducing himself to his new neighbours. Being back in Korea doesn’t stop him from carrying on with his form of building some kind of existence with his neighbours, being away for so long had cut him away from knowing anyone in Korea. Old friends were well old friends that Jaejoong had lost contact with, therefore introducing himself would be the perfect opportunity to make new acquaintances.
The tenth floor only consists of two apartments, his home and one directly opposite, so it would be a piece of cake.
In his arms are a tray full of some side dishes he had spent the afternoon preparing, ringing the doorbell he waits for some kind of movement from the other side of the door.
The sound of slippers against hard flooring becomes louder, getting closer and closer. The door clicks open.
“Annyounghasehyo, I’-”
Jaejoong stops mid-bow as he’s interrupted by familiarity once again.
“So we meet again...”
Jaejoong clutches the tray tightly, eyes peeping subtly through the obstruction his fringe is causing, black tee, leather jacket...
Him? Damn hot?
“Er, yeah...” he manages to reply knowing full well who it was.
“I don’t think I got a chance to introduce myself and apologise for nearly knocking you over. Sorry, and nice to meet you I’m Kim Junsu.”
Jaejoong shakes the hand that is waiting for his response, but finds himself holding onto Junsu’s hand longer than he should.
Kim...Junsu? “Jaejoong, I’m Kim Jaejoong.”
“...Forgive me for being direct but where are you from?”
“California”.
“Originally?”
“So-Soeul?”
“Oh my gosh, it is you! Jaejoong hyung! Do you remember me? What are you doing here?”
It strikes, that familiar smile, the laugh and especially the name. Kim Junsu, old childhood friend of Jaejoong. It had been ten years but that name would always strike a chord in Jaejoong’s heart.
“I’m your new neighbour and yes of course I remember you, the mischievous dongseng who would constantly live in his sheep outfit!”
“Hyung! It was only a month...”
“I distinctly remember it being two?”
“Okay two, but I’ve grown up since then and is that the only memory you have of me?”
Jaejoong laughs “good to hear, imagine you in a sheep’s costume now eh? And of course not, oh I have plenty of memories”.
“Don’t even go there!”
“Oo it’s tempting!”
“Seriously. Don’t. Wow hyung, California eh? I haven’t even set foot out of Korea let alone America, how have you been?” Junsu takes Jaejoong’s hand pulling him into an embrace.
“Good, really good actually. You?”
“Junsu-ah?”
Junsu breaks away from the hug as another voice from within his apartment draws nearer.
A man, slightly taller than Junsu emerged from the darkness of Junsu’s dimmed apartment, the smiled shared between them was different to the smiled shared between Junsu and Jaejoong.
The man bowed politely and greeted towards Jaejoong.
Jaejoong returned the greet but somehow felt apologetic towards his new neighbours, he didn’t know why though.
“This is Jaejoong, our new neighbour and a very old friend of mine. Jaejoong hyung, this is Park Yoochun, my partner”.
