( around town on random sidewalks )

[Today is a great day to be Terezi, especially after following such a bizarre week of uncertainty. After being handed an envelope by her human female drone lusus (and spending the subsequent fifteen minutes trying to open it), she finds herself with her proper body- and, more importantly, her vision- back ( Read more... )

[He's unaware anything is wrong, and even if they ended on a sort of weird note last time, that's so typical for them that he's not even concerned about it.

So when he sees her out and about, he'll come find her.]

Hey.

See? I said you'd get it back.

Hi. [Yeah, she smells him coming before he gets there and when he approaches her, she's kind of sitting there silently gnawing on her chalk. Her eyes remain on the sidewalk as she sketches.]

Yeah, I did.

[He's not wearing his usual outfit, but disappointingly enough he is just wearing shades of black and grey. So he assumes that's the basis of her reaction, and he's perversely glad he didn't let his drone female lusus force him to wear the red sweater today like she wanted him to.

Coming over to look at her drawings.]

I never thought I'd be happy for a return of you being unable to keep your taste appendage to yourself.

[She tilts her head; she's listening, but she remains strangely withdrawn.] Happy? [huh] What for? [she knows Karkat's never been a fan of it on the outside.]

What?

Because, it's been irritating and inconvenient for you to be left at the whims of human biology?

[He knows it's sucked for her to be fully blind so obviously he would be glad she's not anymore. He isn't sure how this wasn't her baseline assumption of what he would think.]

Ehehe... [she laughs a little, but it's not as enthusiastic as it'd usually be.] That's cute of you. [she felt the same way, but... to hear him say it is sort of sweet.]

I'm not fucking cute.

[But he's noticing her reaction to him, and it's starting to make him nervous. He's not sure what he did to warrant this cold response, but figures the way he acted last time they met must have actually ticked her off.

He feels like such an asshole right now for yet again getting worked up and ruining everything, but he'll come sit down next to her to look at her drawing.]

Who's that?

[she scrapes the red chalk over the sidewalk, filling in one of the hair ribbons.] She's one of the strange human constructs. [a faint frown.] They all taste so terrible.

Really? Even though they're all wearing ocular bleeding inducing colors and patterns?

[she considers making a joke about it, but thinking about it makes her feel ill.] No. They taste like nothing. And then they taste like blood. The kind that comes out of dead people.

[to Terezi, blood only ever tastes like blood and not a flavor when it's coming out of a dead body.]

Oh. I thought you--

[He was going to make a comment about how she obviously has a thing for blood, but she sounds serious, and on top of everything else, that would be awkward.

He's quiet for a second, feeling stupid, before abruptly deciding that he should probably not just ignore this.]

Look, I'm sorry, okay? I know I lost it and pitched a stupid fucking fit as usual.

[she seems startled by the sudden outburst. and then her hand tightens subtly over the red chalk she's holding, and suddenly she's looking at the pavement again.

of course, she thinks, he's blaming himself for her poor attempt to cover up how bad she feels. and maybe if she hadn't been so ridiculously irresponsible, she might be a little annoyed at him for that prior incident, but all she feels is guilty.]

... [she's not sure what to say. eventually, her reply is vague.] No, it's fine.

crusthatecean September 7 2011, 15:02:35 UTC
...Okay.

[It doesn't sound like it's fine, but what else can he say? He's not even exactly sure why she's reacting like this when he pulls this shit all the time, and, well, she knows why he's sensitive about that.

But not knowing exactly what he did to piss her off so much just makes him feel like even more of an idiot.]

[she continues drawing for a while in silence, but it's half-hearted.

she can't stand keeping this to herself, but she feels so terrible about it and she's actually scared of how he'd react. Terezi, who never seemed to have a reason to worry about anything- but then again, she'd never pulled anything like this before, either. flirting was one thing, but right now, well... it feels like she's betrayed Karkat, even though she doesn't exactly know what it is she's betrayed. that's the most frustrating part of all; she just doesn't know where they stand.]

[Just going to sit here feeling awkward.

He thinks maybe he should go, since she obviously doesn't want him around right now, but he doesn't want to leave things unresolved. At the same time, he feels like asking what's going on will just make things worse.]

[when she's finished, she begins packing her chalk away, and gets up to move to a fresh patch of sidewalk.

she... should try to make things seem normal, right? yeah, she'll do that. she manages a smile.] Uh, I ran out of space, so I'm moving over there. [her voice is light, as if inviting him to join.]
