Tonight, when introducing Paul to the landfamily downstairs, we forgot that if he came down, the women had to leave or put on a hijab.  We'll eventually adjust to not taking photographs or not just inviting a man along.  In the meantime, we're just bumbling foreigners.

But y'know, it was the first time it ever occurred to me that American men have a different experience here than I do.  We often talk about how men rule the night and don't have to deal with the harrassment or staring (I haven't really found it that bad yet).  But in repeatedly talking about that with the Fulbrighters, I forgot that I so easily earn a pass into womens' lives and friendships.  It's like a secret society, a bubble.

We've had many chats on the above, so I'm sure that as soon as I find better words to fit my thoughts into, more will come.
