Horse Drama

So I haven't murdered Yogi the horse yet. It feels as though I'm doing something wrong having had the vet out twice now with the idea each time to euthanize the horse. Yesterday once again the vet has left and the horse has been granted a reprieve.

Yogi is a curmudgeonly old quarter horse. He has had sand colic and was playing on deaths door last week. Got up right away when the vet showed up. We talked about the signs and doc convinced me the horse wasn't in pain just uncomfortable and blocked. He was then tubed with mineral oil and allowed to let things pass. He spent the following days not getting much better. On Saturday I gave him a pain shot that seemed to allow him to feel well enough to eat but he wasn't passing manure. Yesterday he did the laying down dying horse routine again, pressing his butt up against the fence and still no poop. I call the vet in the morning, he calls me back at 1:40, I then call up Stiles the company that takes the bodies away. Their prices have risen to $140.00... Doc gets here about 2pm after my FRANTIC search for the gate key, because the cleaning ladies MOVED IT OFF THE TABLE. Horse has of course passed diarrhea and upon checking the gut all sounds are normal and there is no impaction. I swiftly call off Stiles to cancel the pickup. I've been left with a huge amount of pain meds and syringes to shoot the horse with each day to keep him out of pain and choosing to poop.

As I told the vet, I don't know who is more dramatic me or the horse.
