Important people listen.

Yesterday was full of win and life cycle. Kira and I had reconnected last Wednesday at "The Sexy Ladies" event at Liz's. The event was a life drawing and wine evening with a nude male model. I enjoyed the sketching a great deal. Kira made plans on coming over for riding yesterday morning. Yogi wasn't being part of this idea as he chose to lay down having been having diarrhea, so instead Kira rode MaeMae as I gave her a lesson. I was very impressed with her ability to take instruction and hear me as I coached her. The horse did press her but Kira pressed back and it was a most successful morning. It is more fun for me to enjoy chatting while giving a lesson. When giving only a lesson I feel a greater concentration that the student needs to make advances that they can recognize and appreciate their own work and advances as valuable. She had to rush off to work but not before I was able to load her down with a bag of fresh lettuces and another of Boc Choi fresh from my garden! I was able to run out to pick up flags for going to a Hero's Walk.
On Saturday, when working at Operation Community Cares where we all bring items for GI's and package them to be mailed to Afghanistan, I learned that the son of our friends Shelley & Roger would be arriving at ONT at 2:15 on Monday. He is a Medic and has been on the front lines for much of his deployment in Afghanistan. He got stateside a couple weeks ago to Louisiana but this time he has 2 weeks off and came home to Rancho Cucamonga. Kathy said she would pick me up en route with her daughter Shelby. I picked up 6 flags and made a large banner "Welcome Home Eli". We were the first ones there but were soon joined by staff from San Antonio Hospital, friends from our Havorah, neighbors, school friends, members of OCC and family. People dribbled in until we numbered about 30+. Flags, balloons, posters, so of course the flight was delayed by about 30 minutes. Our community in the Havorah have all been on heightened emotions for this past year. I know that at least once he was in the hospital with injuries and then sent back out to the front. Kathy spotted Eli first coming down the escalator and we because a happy mob waiving and cheering his return. I recorded a bit on my phone, him hugging his mother, his father repeatedly telling him 'I love you.' and just lots of hugs. People at the airport couldn't avoid the reception and they too clapped and shook his hand. Life is all too precious. In the morning not a mile from Eli's home was the service at St. Paul's for Sgt. Carlo Eugenio. On every overpass along the freeway route to the cemetery were stationed Firemen and Police standing at attention for this fallen soldier. His unit had replaced in Afghanistan one that has the husband of a teacher that works with Kathy. No matter what direction we turn someone we know is being touched and changed by the actions of governments. I look this morning at OWS and wonder how these people are going to change their own circle of influence.
While at the airport Tina texted me that she over exerted herself at PT and couldn't make quilters guild so I asked Molly if she would like to join us as we had space in the van. Leah and then Molly arrived, we then moved onto Cindy's picked up her van. Grabbed sandwiches and then went to pick up Sarah. Thanks to time change people can't drive in the dark saved us from the exact start of the meeting so we missed out on the budget talks for 2012! The speaker was a gentleman Don Lynn who taught 2 days of classes and put on a "Snake Oil" salesman gimmic as his program. He called up volunteers to help his program. First Lara who liked the comment he made about trading in the X husband in for a 'Quilt-o-matic'. He asked what to name the quilt his 'machine' cranked out and I added to the silence "Hugh Jackman". Because of course if you name that quilt as a fantasy man your dreams will surely be covered smirk. Mariann shouted that I was to be the next volunteer. Sure put the feminist on stage with the man quilter, what could happen? He had a plastic ball you were suppose to place your hand on in order to work the Quilt-o-matic and everyone was supposed to buzz hmmmmmmmmmm. Hand me the microphone and I called upon Susan Ivanova as my muse... Boom Shackalacka, Boom Shakalaka, Boom! Mr. Quilt laughed as this caught him off guard, So he pulled out of the machine a bright crazy quilt that was tied not quilted. I commented that the blocks were by both Aunt Polly & Aunt Ester. (Polyester is not a fabric that quilters use because of the difficulty in quilting) Seriously I don't get on stage by choice people, I'm a dish of seasoned jambalaya, not for bland tastes, use me in small applications, do not give me a mic. It leaves me great angst and self flagellation and depreciation for a lifetime. The horrid nightmares last night were just vile. OK let's just put that behind a block in the mind and move on...
Happy thoughts! Lara, & Leslie shared during show and tell as did Diane. Very lovely.
I got a further count for Thanksgiving from both Vicki and Di so we are surely at 25 and most likely will make 30 this year. WHAM I just figured out that it is a week from THIS THURSDAY!!!
The ride home I enjoyed the insights of Leah and Molly. The conversations are always so indepth and enjoyable.
Got home to find Bill watching a documentary "Captains" about all the actors who have played captains on Star Trek. It was a well done piece. Next a couple of episodes of Doc Martin. We then went to bed at a reasonable hour and had some deep pillow talk. He hears me out and mirrors back as well as offers insight, critique, and direction. This year has been full of challenges for both of us and a wealth of learning. I've been working at making myself available to him when he asks. To concentrate, reply, and hear is important to convey respect and appreciation.
