Another Year, Another Road
Beauty and quilts. Yes they can be very pleasing to the eye. Never a
single note. Those who make them have dreams for their creations to offer shelter
as well as pleasure for those protected by them. To share your creation,
submit it for judgement by an unbiased eye can be a huge step in the creative
process. For the Road to CA show all quilts are juried. This means slides
are submitted and they have to make the grade there in order to be selected for
hanging. Very much like during college admissions the parents worry if they
did a good enough job to see their creation move forward. If your quilt is
not accepted you can choose to learn and make the next step. Or you could
instead choose to stop in your tracks and forgo your aspirations and growth.
I have never submitted a quilt for a juried show. Heck I rarely bother to
bring anything to show and tell. I'm too wrapped inside my own head in the
struggle to bring the quilt out of my head to consider that showing my step
could help someone else SEE something that is unique to their artistic vision.
I have sisters and brothers in the cloth. I need to run to that horizon and
explore being judged.
My mother has lost more weight. My brother is painting her house. Tomorrow
is Monday and it is the long note before Tuesday when we see if she will get
another chemo treatment. Right now today I pray for her and need to grab at
creativity for my comfort. I'm actually very well taken care of by friends
these days. I probably post much of this struggle as small street signs for
people who follow. I also believe that my sharing has caused an exodus from
my LJ by people who aren't in this place. That is healthy to know when
something is not adding to your present day life. When I was caretaking for my
grandmother my needs to get help estranged some from me. Everyone has a
different struggle everyday. I just want to hug a quilt.
